Todays technology solutions unfortunately often come with hidden "strings" in the form of loss of control and ownership. When you sign up with a managed services provider for solutions like hosted data centers or remote management, you're frequently relinquishing control for those services. So despite paying for these services, not only do you not actually own them, you frequently have no control over or visibility into them. Need to make changes or bring up a new site or users? Want to talk directly to product support or work directly with the software development team? Want to arrange your own warranty support? Tough luck â you're at the mercy of the managed service provider's terms and timeframes. Whether it's backup solutions, software licensing or system monitoring, the story's the same: you're frequently left both blind and powerless without ownership and control. And in an industry where data security and efficiency are critical, controlling your technology stack should be non-negotiable. Don't be fooled by vendors who make this sound convenient or cost effective â demand ownership and control and ensure your systems work for you, not the managed services provider. The promise of saving even an hour a day can seem like a golden opportunity for you as a busy healthcare Administrator. But as tempting as it may be to implement these time-saving solutions immediately, a thoughtful approach is key. Look Before You Leap: When considering new technologies or processes, it's essential to understand both the immediate and long-term impacts. How will this solution affect your operations upstream and downstream? Smart Implementation: The best strategy? Start with an isolated pilot. This approach allows you to test the solution in a controlled environment, assess its effectiveness, and understand its implications without overhauling your entire system. By carefully vetting potential solutions and opting for pilot tests, you can ensure that any new implementation is beneficial, sustainable, and truly time-saving without unintended consequences. Have you introduced new tech or processes in your workplace recently? How did you approach the integration? As a practice executive, you've likely encountered the classic "you must do this or else" arguments about your technologies. These scams often fall into two categories: compliance and risk. But guess what? They're frequently false narratives used by technology vendors, consultants and others to push their own agendas, and they usually end up costing you more, unnecessarily altering business priorities and increasing frustration for all concerned. "HIPAA will shut down your practice!" HIPAA Security is a massive boondoggle in healthcare, enabling fear-mongering consultants and unnecessary products. The truth? There's no such thing as a 'HIPAA Secure' facility or technology. Most HIPAA compliance is process- and policy-related, rather than about specific technologies or tech toys. Don't let technologists use HIPAA or other 'compliance' issues to sell you unnecessary solutions, or let them convince you that you are 'protected' if you buy their product or service. Don't fall for the "forced upgrade" scam! Technologists love to claim that some or all of your systems are on the verge of failure and must be replaced. While technology does evolve, it doesn't mean you must blindly replace functional systems. Manufacturers and vendors want you to buy the latest tech toys, but you have alternatives. Warranty periods don't dictate the useful lifespan of tech equipment. Investigate after-market warranties, find service providers for maintenance, or keep spare parts handy. Technology refresh cycles depend on the type of system, with some things like networking gear lasting 5-7 years or longer. Don't let fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) drive your decisions - stay informed, question everything, and make decisions that make sense for your practice. #TechScams #HIPAA #Tech Learn more about HealthSpaces and our mission to solve problems in healthcare! https://hubs.la/Q02gXGj20 HealthSpaces | 720.515.6892 | info@healthspaces.com
