What separates a technician of 15 years or more from a new grad/tech of a couple years?..... WISDOM/EXPERIENCE. What closes the gap between that tech of 15 plus years with a newer technician?... WORK ETHIC/ATTENTION TO DETAIL. * ie TO THE YOUNGER TECHS if you have great work ethic and attention to detail it will get you far as a biomed. What would a biomedical engineer actually do in the hospital on a quotidian basis? Routine Check: Biomedical engineers start their day with a daily check, visiting clinical departments in the hospital, from OPD to the operation theatre. They collect all kinds of complaints regarding medical equipment, instruments, and furniture. Allocating Personnel: Personnel are allocated based on complaints and areas of specialization by the biomedical manager/team leader. Breakdown Maintenance: Allocated personnel form a team to handle all kinds of complaints based on their availability. Complaints are resolved according to criticality (critical/non-critical) on a priority basis, and pending complaints are forwarded for routine follow-up." Unresolved complaints or complaints that could not be resolved in-house would be addressed with the assistance of local vendors or by the respective company personnel, at a cost Preventive Maintenance (PM): PM Given the highest priority because prevention is better than cure. It is performed by biomedical engineers according to criticality, schedule, and availability. Calibration: Some medical equipment requires calibration by a biomedical engineer rather than by end users or technicians to ensure optimal performance and safety. Examples include ABG machines, anesthesia delivery systems, ICU ventilators, defibrillators, multipara monitors, electro-surgical units, lab equipments and radiological equipment among others." Annual Maintenance: Some of the assets are segregated for third-party maintenance based on Annual Maintenance Coontract (AMC) and Comprehensive Maintenance Contract (CMC) according to criticality. In this case, annual budget allocation is applicable. Procurement and Commissioning: New medical devices are successfully purchased after quality checks and budgeting. They are then installed and documented properly. A new asset number/equipment unique ID is provided and added to the existing inventory. Endorsement: At the end of the workday, all details are conveyed properly, either verbally or through documents, to another shift engineer/team leader/biomedical manager. #Adroit biomedical #biomedicalengineer #clinicalengineering
