It wasnât my place, so I made my own.
Three years ago, I left my career leading talent acquisition teams and launched my own business. But hereâs the thing: I didnât leave the corporate arena because I WANTED to be an entrepreneur; I left because I LOVE the CORPORATE ARENA.
I was perfectly happy with what I was doing for work. Leading recruiters and recruiting strategies in the corporate arena, my team was able to successfully impact individualsâ career trajectories through bigger offers, better jobs, and new pathways that pointed them in the direction of their dreams. I thrived helping the organization advance by matching the right candidate with the right opportunityâ everyone wins! And for a long time, that was enough. Until 2020(?), when I discovered (stumbled upon? confronted?) a part of me I had been holding back.
Though I was able to hold space for and build deep relationships with these individuals, my function within the organization limited my ability to truly meet them where they were. They had their own leaders in their own units with their own unique challenges. And when they raised certain topics with me, I had to respond carefully and redirect.
Frankly, it wasnât âmy place.â
And then, I couldnât unsee what I suddenly understood. From within, my high esteem for the corporate arena was holding me back from showing up fully for the individual AS WELL AS the organization. There was no doubt in my mind. I knew I could make a bigger impact on BOTH the organizations and the individuals FROM THE OUTSIDE.
And so, on a sunny Tuesday in April, I embarked on a journey to serve both the corporate arena and the individuals within it equally.
What are you holding back at work?
