How's it going? HFA Oregon. My name is Adam Nemer, and I can't wait to chat with Y'all in May, your summer conference at Salishan. But the power Putting mental health literacy in your finance tool boxes right next to GAP rules, cost accounting, Medicare reimbursement policies, and all the other tools you've each acquired over the years. But all first aid? We know how to save someone's life or might be choking at a lunch meeting. Few of us know what to do if if someone is having an anxiety attack at the same meeting. Yet alone, even knowing how to recognize it, if they were. The fact of the matter is that more than 25% of Americans every year experience a clinically diagnosable mental illness that that hurts as much and impacts the performance of each of our health systems in teams as much as any physical illness does. And healthcare situation is even worse. The situation is so dire in healthcare that the US Surgeon General recently identified health worker burnout as one of the top six population health priorities in the country, you know. I have a very personal relationship with this topic. Nearly 20 years as a CFO and Senior Operations Executive at Kaiser Permanente have a while experiencing undiagnosed yet severe depression and anxiety, I struggled every day managing my emotions. Almost all aspects of my life were broken and and I didn't even know it. Then one day in a 5 minute conversation at work, my entire life shifted because of mental health. Literate colleague knows the signs in me that I was struggling with. Mental well-being and he knew how to encourage me to get out. When our time is done together, you're going to know the very simple steps that you can take so that you can have just as much impact on the lives of your teammates as as my colleague did for me. Be well, and I can't wait to see you in May and Salishan.

Big news for the mental healthcare front!
ðï¸âï¸ The new labour government has pledged to recruit an impressive 8,500 new mental health professionals. This could significantly enhance support for those in need and inject much-needed stability into the sector.
Potentially a monumental boost for the existing mental health work force who've grappled with inconsistent engagement and the need for more robust support.
Newton Healthcare is poised and prepared to support and engage with all key decision makers to make this happen.

In a recent article for The Hill Times, Louise Bradley, board chair of Stepped Care Solutions and former president/CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, provides a thoughtful examination of the benefits of our approach to mental health care.
Bradley highlights the success of Wellness Together Canada, a virtual mental health safety net initiated by the federal government. Under the Stepped Care 2.0 model, this initiative united leading mental health innovators to offer easy to use comprehensive services for all Canadians.
Her insights underscore the critical importance of rethinking mental health care delivery. Stepped Care Solutions offers a co-designed inclusive approach, recognizing individualâs diverse needs across the mental health continuum and the value of collaborating with a variety of partners for better access and better outcomes.

Take Care
Rural & Remote Communities continue to lag behind
On #WorldMentalHealthDay, we recognise the importance of mental health for everyone, no matter where they live. Sadly in Queensland the reality for many in rural and remote areas is that access to mental health services remains inconsistent, limited and fragmented.
Those living in rural and remote parts of Queensland are up to 40% more likely to experience mental health issues than those in urban areas.
Despite this, access to services is alarmingly scarceâ communities located outside of major metropolitan areas or larger regional centres are three times more likely to face significant delays in receiving care and some may not successfully access care at all.
We remain committed to addressing these inequities. We believe everyone deserves timely, high-quality mental health care, regardless of their location. By partnering with local communities, healthcare providers, funders and lobbying policymakers we strive to create more equitable primary health outcomes across Queensland.
Our rural and remote communities deserve better mental health services.

How can healthcare workplaces support staff after a tough day?
Healthcare workers face immense challenges daily, especially in care homes where they often deal with the passing of residents. Here are some ways to support them:
ð£ï¸ **Open Communication:** Encourage staff to share their feelings and experiences. Regular debriefing sessions can help them process their emotions and feel heard.
ðâï¸ **Mental Health Resources:** Provide access to counseling services and mental health support. Sometimes, just knowing help is available can make a big difference.
ð¤ **Peer Support Groups:** Create peer support groups where staff can connect and share their experiences. This fosters a sense of community and mutual understanding.
At Newton Healthcare, we believe in honesty, courage, and inclusion. We strive to support our team because we care deeply about their well-being.
What other ways can we support our healthcare heroes? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
