From my perspective, it seems as though adjusting media types does little to combat Ad fraud. Instead, what makes this problem so prevalent is the lack of accountability in the programmatic supply chain. Firms leaning into advertising without any sort of accountability measures are met with an impossible Catch-22 wherein spending more leads to less impact and spending less delivers the same. #AdTech #Innovation #AdFraud

🚀 I am absolutely thrilled  to share that I have joined Analytic Partners as their new VP, Commercial Analytics Ambassador. 🚀 I bet at least a few of my friends, colleagues, family members or followers are thinking, “WTF is a Commercial Analytics Ambassador?”  🤔 This post is for you. ❓ What is Commercial Analytics ❓ Commercial Analytics is the evolution of media mix modeling. To summarize 70 years of history into 19 words: factors broadened, latency decreased, frequency increased, algorithms advanced, presentations become platforms and use case expanded to additional C-level roles. ❓ What is my new role ❓ My role is to tell this story, help executives understand where their organization fits in this 70-year journey, and accelerate their modernization. Simply put: if you are investing in econometrics today, it should be a commercial analytics approach. If not, it’s time to put it on your roadmap. So if you are a fan of econometrics, causal inference modeling, algorithmic aversion or most importantly quantifying large investments that seem to defy measurement, consider giving me a follow.  I’m suspicious there is a lot of great stuff to come. 🙌

Consumer behavior has changed in 2024. YouTube is leading the way in streaming, even surpassing streaming giants like Netflix. Despite lowering inflation and somewhat stable employment, consumers feel the impact of a 19% price increase since January 2021, yet the travel industry rebounded with 3.01 million passengers in July 2024. Businesses must stay up to date on consumer sentiment to maximize business decisions. #ConsumerTrends

A compelling argument for the importance of experiments and the use of Bayesian modeling. The objection/notion of isolated, walled garden experiments is slowly becoming obsolete. As advertisers increasingly leverage open-source or proprietary geo/user-based experimentation on their own internal metrics, the need for incrementality testing as the gold standard for establishing media causality becomes undeniable. Incorporating experimental data into a Bayesian framework should enable more accurate and actionable insights in this regard.

Easy/boring/cheap to use AI to scrape competitor's data with tools like browse.ai. Hard/fun/costly to poison data to feed competitors misinformation with tools like glaze.cs.uchicago.edu or datadome.co.

Curation as a service from the buy-side perspective. The middle now leans towards supply as cookie restrictions collapse data portability. Great piece by Anthony with technical explainers, use cases, and lift metrics. Bonus point for the F*ck Survey Fraud shirt, Roddy! Good challenge to the industry about what we have done to create the current situation we are in where data quality is still an issue. First, he unpacked the MRX monster: - constrained budgets - pricing pressure - disengaged participants - survey farms and more sophisticated organized fraud - more bots (non-human) “participants” - AI being used for open-ends The answer is that instead of focusing on CLEANING the data we should be getting focused on it being real, representative and reliable data by not allowing fraud to even get into the survey. It’s a commitment to addressing the root of the problem and not spending money just mopping things up. There’s the dtect differentiation for sure. He had some really great figures to understand the actual hard and soft costs of fraud. Why do we find this totally acceptable??? Also fun scratch ticket below. Great presentation. We're getting dialed in for our holiday push (I'm aware it's July, never too early : ) A big focus for the media team—data quality (aka META EMQ scores, Catalog Match Rate, Google Ads Enhanced Conversion score). And data feeds (my favorite). META Shops (which are powered by catalogs) continue to be a growth area we're focused on. And judging from the new "Shops-assisted purchases" metrics https://lnkd.in/gTYqVEmp we're getting in Ads Manager—we're not alone. Across our portfolio we're seeing meaningful interactions with META Shops. AND direct conversions (aka checkout) happening in Shops. Here's an example. 31% of conversions interacted with Shops. Getting Shops enabled has been a meaningful difference maker in this account. Moral of the story. Don't neglect your feeds. Get Shops setup now if you haven't already. Make your Shop look cool.
