What do you do if you're ready to lead but need a path?
Volunteer. If you're in tech, or want to be, check out Code for America - not only do they welcome developers of all stripes, but they also need project managers, UX researchers, UI designers, and QA testers. Organizations such as this are great ways to gain experience leading a team. You can also seek out working boards to join, and work up to chairing a committee. These activities not only look great on a resume, but they help you identify your strengths and weaknesses in a leadership capacity.

Here's how you can navigate challenges in a cross-functional team as an entrepreneur.
As a founder, you may not intuitively understand the desire that your team has for their role to be defined. Especially when employees who are adept at "wearing many hats" are helping you stretch your budget and make payroll. However, this is one of the biggest differentiators between small, disorganized businesses and startups that have scaling power. To start, give each person on the team a clear definition of how they're expected to perform and what success looks like for them. Who: Who do they report to? Who do they delegate to? Who else is on their team? What: What are they expected to do each day, week and month without fail? What are some stretch goals that you'd love to see them aiming for? What defines success or failure?

Here's how you can effectively handle multiple clients and projects as a self-employed professional.
Respond to issues as they arise. It's easy to drown in "time management tricks" like Eisenhower matrixes and project management apps. Nothing cuts through the noise like rapid-fire execution. Learn to make decisions more quickly, as this is an underrated skill that keeps you from blocking yourself or your team. Grow a team you feel confident delegating to. Then let them work and stay out of their way. Never make an excuse to a client when you could be using that energy making something happen. Even the most monumental obstacles can be moved inch by inch. Do something each day to show them that you're moving things forward, and keep lines of communication open. Request feedback from clients regularly, and implement changes accordingly.

What are effective strategies for developing programs that meet the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals?
With the awareness that programs for the LGBT+ and allies community are serving eight uniquely distinct communities, ensure that representatives from each one are a part of your planning committee. Within those eight groups, you must also consider intersectionality: Is everyone involved in planning this program the same ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion? Is everyone able-bodied and neurotypical? Are there caregivers or individuals of different socioeconomic groups present? These are important questions to ask as you begin to plan. The eight groups you're serving are people who identify with at least one of the following: - Lesbian - Gay - Bisexual - Transgender or Gender Diverse - Queer - Intersex - Asexual - Ally
