All Military Veterans, VA Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs)   DBQs help collect necessary medical information to process your VA disability claims. You can use these VA forms to submit medical evidence from your health care providers to the VA when filling your VA claim. This information helps to support your claims for VA disability benefits. Please have your health care provider Doctor fill out and you submit the appropriate forms to the VA for your claimed conditions.   Find your medical DBQ's using this link: https://lnkd.in/en-zkhBB VA does not pay or reimburse any expenses or costs incurred while completing and/or submitting DBQs. In most instances, you're entitled to a no cost disability examination by the VA. In some instances, the VA may determine an additional disability examination is required to complete the claim. If an exam is scheduled, you must report for the examination (C&P). DBQ's are medical examination forms used to obtain important information for evaluating disability compensation and/or pension claims.  VA physicians use DBQs when performing C&P exams for VA disability. The purpose of a DBQ is to ensure that the physician performing the exam records all the information needed for VA to properly rate a disabled veteran’s conditions. Before you go to a VA C&P (Compensation and Pension) exam you need to print down the Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) for your medical condition before you see any Doctor performing C&P exam. Find your medical condition using link and answer all the question either by you or your doctor before your appointment. Carry in your completed DBQ with you to your exam and give it to the examiner. This is important for you to carry with you to your appointment! Also, Have dates and brief medical synopsis of relevant medical service record entries. Examiner might ask if they could have a copy to help them from digging through your military medical record. The DoD Announces the creation of Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts (HCFSAs) for Service Members!: https://lnkd.in/ebYqgJeM This is GREAT news for EFMP families, and every single family should invest in this HCFSA! It is a fantastic opportunity for EFMP families to save money that we typically spend yearly on items not covered by TRICARE. For example, eyeglasses and meals, and transportation to medical appointments! Also, if a family is on TRICARE Select, they will want to put aside at least a $1000 deductible automatically. Additionally, Special Education may be included as well! According to the IRS Publication 502, ” You can include in medical expenses fees you pay on a doctor’s recommendation for a child’s tutoring by a teacher who is specially trained and qualified to work with children who have learning disabilities caused by mental or physical impairments, including nervous system disorders. (Dyslexia families, we are looking at you) You can include in medical expenses the cost (tuition, meals, and lodging) of attending a school that furnishes special education to help a child to overcome learning disabilities. Overcoming the learning disabilities must be the primary reason for attending the school, and any ordinary education received must be incidental to the special education provided. Special education includes: ✨Teaching Braille to a visually impaired person, ✨Teaching lip reading to a hearing disabled person, or ✨Giving remedial language training to correct a condition caused by a birth defect. If a school is geared towards learning differences, the expenses should be included. As always, consult with tax preparer. New TRICARE Contract for 2025 The Defense Health Agency (DHA) provides health services to approximately 9.6 million beneficiaries, including uniformed service members, military retirees, and their families. The DHA operates the TRICARE Health Plan and manages a global network of more than 700 military hospitals, clinics, and dental facilities. After resolving litigation, TRICARE beneficiaries are set to start receiving care under a new provider contract, nicknamed “T-5,” on January 1, 2025. Some of the changes are as follows: The new contract will NOT affect TRICARE For Life beneficiaries, TRICARE Overseas users, or U.S. Family Health Plan members. Humana Military will continue to be the TRICARE East Region contractor under the new setup. TriWest takes over the TRICARE West Region from Health Net Federal Services. TriWest previously held the West Region contract. Six states (Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin) will move from the East region to the West region. U.S. Air Force Reserve members have been integral to the Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team, or LAMAT, a U.S. Air Force medical assistance mission that complements care for patients across medical specialties in island nations in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility. Air Force Reserve members traveled to Suriname, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and St. Kitts and Nevis starting in February, and over the span of eight weeks encountered diverse experiences and opportunities to increase readiness and support communities. Air Force-led global health engagement, or GHE, activities are increasingly utilizing Total Force Integration, including active-duty and reserve component personnel and units. The Air Force Reserve’s support of LAMAT offers a powerful opportunity for practicing expeditionary medical skills and force retention. The overall mission enhanced U.S. Air Force and partner nation medical capabilities with more than 6,000 procedures performed on more than 3,500 patients. Every year, Air Force Reserve members have two weeks of annual training focused on maintaining military medical readiness. GHE activities offer a unique opportunity for reserve medical Airmen enabling them to operate in new and austere environments, which strengthens their readiness for a wide range of potential future operations. Dr. TERRY THIEM, NSRI director for medical countermeasures, presented "Developing Medical Countermeasures for the Warfighter" to more than 100 attendees at the University of Nebraska at Kearney last week.   He highlighted that the development of medical countermeasures for the warfighter is often not significantly different than that for the civilian population. Gunshot wounds and traumatic brain injury are examples of areas where medical research is common to both sectors. Operational environments such as chemical, biological and nuclear battlefields, however, are unique to the warfighter and where NSRI is tasked to provide expertise in developing medical countermeasures. He addressed those unique environments and presented current and proposed research to address some of the most difficult medical issues facing the warfighter today.
