"Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner." - Lao Tzu Ah yes, the wisdom of Lao Tzu—timeless, and yet, here I am, still overthinking every decision I make as a leader. 😅 The cycle usually goes something like this: 1 - Make a decision – Should be simple, right? Well… 2 - Worry about how everyone will react – What if they get upset? What if they disengage? What if they start missing deadlines just to spite me? (Okay, I know, a bit dramatic. 🙃) 3 - Overthink… – Cue the endless mental gymnastics. 🤹‍♂️ 4 - Communicate it anyway – Despite my brain’s attempts to derail me, I’ve learned to just do it and hope for the best. 🧘‍♂️ And it’s not just at work. When my kids were babies, I used to be extra nice to their carer. Why? Because apparently, I thought if I gave any critical feedback, they might, I don’t know… stop caring for my kids properly? (Makes total sense, right? 😳) But here’s the thing—holding back never worked. Turns out, giving feedback doesn’t automatically mean someone will hate you. Who knew? 🙃 If no one tells them what’s wrong, how can they fix it? Spoiler: They can’t. So, yeah, I’ve stopped letting fear of reactions hold me hostage. It might sting at first, but in the long run, everyone wins. 🎉 How do you handle tough decisions and giving feedback?
