About us

Introduced January 1, 2005, WVU Medicine East brings together Berkeley Medical Center (formerly City Hospital), Jefferson Medical Center (formerly Jefferson Memorial) and West Virginia University Hospitals to form a new not-for-profit healthcare delivery system for the Eastern Panhandle. The Eastern Panhandle is growing and changing – and we are too. We’ve listened to the communities we serve and evolved with you so that we can ensure we provide our area with access to the best care possible. We’re growing to better meet your needs – and we’re not done yet! We’re still the same healthcare systems you’ve come to know and trust, but now we’ve partnered to provided accesses to even more resources, and we’re bringing WVU’s commitment to superior healthcare close to home. These changes mean new specialties, new services, new physicians, the latest technology, renovated facilities, and a unified healthcare delivery system that’s committed to improving the health status of Eastern Panhandle residents by providing high-quality health and wellness services, expanding access to care and participating in the education of healthcare professions. Welcome to WVU Medicine East – The first-choice, quality medical care you and your family deserve.

Updates

  • CMA’s Toyota of Martinsburg generously donated $6,664 to the WVU Hospitals East Foundation’s Chairs for Comfort campaign, bringing us closer to securing funding for 21 new infusion treatment chairs for the WVU Cancer Institute at Berkeley Medical Center. These upgraded chairs, featuring heat and massage options, will provide patients with the enhanced comfort they need during lengthy treatments—amenities often wished for by those undergoing hours of infusion.   Toyota of Martinsburg is one of the first organizations in our community to step up in support, joined by individuals who have given in honor of loved ones. We encourage the community to join this impactful campaign by donating in support, in honor, or in memory of someone who has endured these challenging treatments.   To contribute to the Chairs for Comfort campaign, please visit https://lnkd.in/ehWFhGQ6.

  • Jeremy Speer, Therapist, and Avery Bowman, Trauma Sensitive Yoga Instructor, led the Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Center Cohort 10 nurse residents through a journey of mindfulness and stress reduction activities in a recent nurse residency workshop titled, "Wellness for Caregivers: Balancing Life's Stressors." The nurse residents enjoyed some laughs while sharing their perfect "stress release" invention with fellow cohort members.

  • Congratulations to Donnie Grubb, Manager of Trauma & Emergency Management at Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Center, for being named the honored recipient of the 2024 Fire Chief Award. Donnie received his award at the WVU Medicine Emergency Management Symposium in Morgantown and was nominated by his peers across this system. The fire chief/fire extinguisher award goes to the individual who puts out the most fires. This individual, through no fault of their own, frequently has major incidents arise, and works through them calmly and effectively, demonstrating what true emergency management leadership is all about. It may seem like they are always in the midst of a disaster, major or minor, but always come through. And when the smoke clears, they are immediately sharing lessons learned with the rest of the team. Congratulations, Donnie, for this well-deserved honor! He is pictured (far left) at the WVU Medicine Emergency Management Awards Ceremony with other honorees from across the system.
