When I revealed that AI gives me time (and leverage) to code as a CEO, a few people asked me what my tech stack was. Without these tools, I don’t think it would be worth my time to code: - Cursor using Anthropic's Claude for generating code / doing experimentation around prompts. - OpenAI ChatGPT (4o and o1) with Mac desktop for asking questions / planning what to do. Also useful to have it just write elasticsearch syntax / SQL queries. (I think Claude might be better, but I much prefer the mac app.) - Braintrust for quickly testing prompts across a bunch of models I see a lot of candidates who think entering management means leaving what got them excited about their career in the first place. I can confidently say that’s not the case anymore. At least, in circumstances like mine.

Company desirability - You might have a compelling mission. Or insane traction. Or some name-brand team members. Highlight the unique parts of your organization. 2. Roles & responsibilities - Talk about how much ownership they’ll have. Will they report to the CEO? Will they be working on a brand new product? One of the biggest selling points of a startup is getting much bigger scope of work compared to a large company - don’t shy away from this. 3. Employer branding - I’m surprised how many companies don’t nail the fundamentals. Fix your website, careers page, Wellfound company profile, and blog. Examples of companies that do this well: PostHog, Tremendous 4. Comp / benefits - Try to go above-average for your company’s stage. To check this, we love Pave. Also, just accept that FAANG offers will always be higher. This is why point 1 is so crucial. 5. Location - If you’re remote, make sure that is as clear as possible.
