They’re deeply rooted in their communities and have a unique understanding of the local challenges, opportunities, and cultural dynamics in the areas where we operate. Their knowledge is invaluable for creating development solutions that are sustainable and tailored to each country’s unique needs. In 1997 USAID was one of the first development agencies in the world to adopt a formal disability policy to champion #DisabilityRights. Building on this legacy, we are proud to share the Nothing Without Us USAID Disability Policy. This new policy updates our understanding of disability to a social and rights-based framework — with the goal of removing societal barriers to participation of persons with disabilities in their communities. This updated policy will guide the Agency in responding to the needs and perspectives of persons with disabilities worldwide in today’s global context.
