In October we hosted our first ever Empower HER career panel, sponsored by the Nancy C. Tierney Fund for Girls' and Women's #Empowerment. Six experts from multiple industries shared advice on navigating their career journeys as women of color, and they touched on topics including: how to choose a college, what it means to be a leader, the pros and cons of side hustles, overcoming fear, starting a business, and the importance of self-care. We are sending a HUGE thank you to our panelists for facilitating such a powerful conversation and to our young people for their insightful questions! #SparkAJourney #SpeakerPanel #TierneyFund

Was this our largest pair event ever?? Maybe so!! ð¨ð¨ð¨ Over 70 people attended our first Fall pair event at Jeni's Ice Cream. There were lots of new mentor and participant pairs meeting for the first time but also many familiar faces. Pair events are just one example of the events we create to promote relationship building and a sense of #belonging, and we are in need of additional mentors! We are honored each and every Fall to kick-off the school year with our match event, pairing together our mentors and participants. For three decades, we continue the work of bridging the gaps in our local community. Imagine all the nerves and excitement surrounding a room of strangers as they meet each other on this journey to spark new paths and possibilities. It's shaping up to be such a great year! â #MentoringMatters #SparkAJourney #DCNonprofit

I was super excited and honored to be apart of the #EmpowerHER panel tonight hosted by Spark the Journey. Thank you for thinking of me and selecting me to speak to the next generation of minority women leaders. Being able to speak to highschool students who are interesting in navigating the career field was truly invigorating and I cant wait for more opportunities!

Spark staff visit partner high schools monthly to check in with participants and lead activities that promote college readiness and skills building. Our first round of recent school visits were a fantastic opportunity to catch up with students after a busy summer and begin level setting for the year ahead. Program Coordinators led a series of goal setting activities for academic, professional, and personal goals. Students shared a range of aspirations, including getting a good score on the SAT, increasing their GPAs, and joining new extracurricular activities. We canât wait to work with them toward these goals! ð #MentoringMatters #SparktheJourney #DCNonprofit
