Thrilled to celebrate the newly-installed innovations at Sims Metal, Chesapeake! Recently, Sims Metal invested $20M in a new fixed shear that is expected to reduce emissions up to 80%, unveiled a new STAR plant that offers advanced metal separation, and added an advanced indoor maintenance facility to better service equipment without compromising the environment or employee safety. These significant investments support our core value to drive excellence in everything we do as we continue to innovate and prioritize safety and sustainability. We were honored to have Mayor West of City of Chesapeake, Congressman Bobby Scott and Virginia State Delegates, Cliff Hayes and Baxter Ennis join us for the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony. Their support and commitment to our community mean a great deal to us. A special thanks to our dedicated employees, partners and suppliers who made this project possible. Your hard work and dedication have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. We are excited about the positive impacts these investments will have on our company, our community and the environment. #SimsMetal #Chesapeake #MetalRecycling #CommunitySupport #EnvironmentalImpact #Innovations #Sustainability

Yesterday in the United States, on the solemn anniversary of the September 11th attacks, we were honored to donate two partial beams from the World Trade Center to the San Rafael Fire Department and the County of Madera. These beams were retrieved through our involvement in the cleanup efforts following the tragic attacks. The San Rafael Fire Department will display their beam as a 9/11 memorial, where they plan to add plaques and lights to commemorate the fallen heroes. The County of Madera will incorporate their beam into a new 9/11 memorial at the Madera County Courthouse Park. We are proud to support our local communities and help preserve the memory of those who were lost on that fateful day. ð¸: San Rafael Firefighters Marin Independent Journal #NeverForget #911Memorial #SimsMetal #SanRafaelFireDepartment #WorldTradeCenter

It is our responsibility to educate future generations about the importance that recycling plays in preserving natural resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the actions that we can take to protect our planet. At the beginning of June, in honour of World Environment Day, Sims Metal in Milperra (Australia) hosted five students from the Redfield Jarjum College for an interactive and informative session around the importance that recycling plays in preserving our planet's natural resources and the actionable steps that they can take to contribute to a healthier environment. The teamâs goal was not only to spread awareness around recycling, but also to encourage the students to become supporters for environmental stewardship in their daily lives. The students were captured by the engaging session that incorporated multimedia elements, hands-on activities and discussion opportunities that the team expertly put together for them. A special thanks to Timothy Booth and his team for hosting this fantastic interactive session and thank you also to Francesca, Ryan, Bella and Mimi for their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn about metal recycling. #SimsMetal #MetalRecycling #WorldEnvironmentDay #LocalCommunity #Sustainability #SocialResponsibility #NaturalResources #FutureGenerations

SITE SPOTLIGHT ð  Innovation leads the way to a greener future.  As a core value at Sims Metal, we commit to excellence in everything we do and champion continuous improvement. Our Long Marston facility in the United Kingdom is a great example of our ongoing innovation and focus on improving technologies to offer high quality products to our customers.  Examples of recent innovation at the facility include sensor and processing technology that will increase our throughput capacity at this site whilst also improving quality.  At this facility, we receive non-ferrous residue waste from other Sims Metal locations as well as external supplies, and further process this residue to create a cleaner stream of material. With around 1.5M tonnes of metal processed each year at Sims Metal sites across the UK, this site plays a crucial role in enabling us to provide a higher quality product to our global customers.   The top material processed at this facility includes residue from our shredders and WEEE operations. The goal of our Long Marston facility is to close the loop on our own processes to the extent possible, while at the same time providing our global customers with the highest quality products possible.  Find out moreâ¯about Sims Metal ð www.simsmm.co.uk #SimsMetal #MetalRecycling #MetalSensorTechnology #NonFerrousResidueWasteÂ

Lithium-ion batteries can cause fires and have quickly become the #1 cause of fires at recycling facilities ðð This means the proper use, and more importantly, safe recycling or disposal of lithium-ion batteries and items that contain these batteries, is critical to protecting the health and safety of all those around us. Protecting our frontline recycling workers is an imperative, as these community members are often those most exposed to the risk of fires as a result of lithium-ion batteries being sent in recycling loads or thrown into garbage. For tips on how to safely manage end of life lithium-ion batteries visit the Call2Recycle website. ð https://lnkd.in/ed_S-8zW Remember: â¡ These batteries are in many different household items and are so small that theyâre easily and often overlooked. â¡ Please check all items ready for recycling or disposal to ensure no batteries inadvertently are included in your recycling or thrown into trash. â¡ A single small battery can have enough charge to start a large fire in a metal recycling facility, materials recovery facility (MRF), a transfer station or a landfill. #lithiumbatterysafety #batteries #sustainability #recycling #circulareconomy
