We are proud to share our final Hispanic Heritage Month spotlight, Elizabeth Valencia. Joining Remington in 2021, Elizabeth was a standout on our HR team and was quickly promoted to her current position of Area Director HR Business Partner. Her people-first leadership approach coupled with her expertise in the hospitality industry makes her an invaluable member of our team. ðWhat connects you to your Hispanic heritage? Family gatherings were a cornerstone of my upbringing with Friday nights dedicated to Carne Asadaâs, where we enjoyed traditional Mexican food, games, music, and danced to cumbias and merengues. These traditions deepened my appreciation for our cultural heritage and the significance of preserving and sharing it. ð¨What was your first role in hospitality and what positions have you held prior to your current role? My first job was working as a dishwasher at the family restaurant when I was just 12 years old. I began in the kitchen, progressing from dishwasher to prep cook, and eventually to cooking on the line. However, after two hours of training, I was reassigned because every dish I prepared was returned either burnt or undercooked. I found my stride when I transitioned to the front of the house, where I thrived and excelled. ðWhat advice would you give to someone who aspires to be like you? Dedicate and commit yourself to achieving more than you think you can. Take pride in the quality of your work and always speak to others with dignity and respect. Donât hesitate to ask questions when youâre uncertain and view every interaction with a leader as an opportunity to learn something new. ðWhat does Remington mean to you? In my role as an HR leader at Remington, I feel a profound sense of accomplishment. This position represents the culmination of my hard work, allowing me to enjoy the rewards of my dedication and commitment. Itâs a time to reflect on the journey that brought me here and savor the achievements Iâve worked so hard to realize. #HispanicHeritageMonth #RemingtonHospitality #roomtothrive
