Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are great options for clients who have recently left a residential or partial hospitalization program and are seeking further support in their recovery journeys. This service can also benefit those who need less assistance and have a strong family dynamic at home, as it is less of a commitment. In a recent study, researchers found that there are five specific family support categories for mental health and substance use recovery. One of these categories was autonomous support, which encourages decision-making aligned with their loved oneâs interests and recovery goals. It also involves being willing to ask questions about a loved oneâs situation without making decisions or giving direct advice. Spending time as a family builds connection and support. The North Tampa Branch Library is hosting a book discussion event on November 21st at 10:30 AM. Encourage your clients to attend the event with their family or friends if they seek a safe place to create memories and facilitate a healing environment. https://lnkd.in/gb945Mb6

Not every client has a family dynamic that will support their recovery journey. For some, they have family or friends who will enable or encourage their substance use disorder, which makes it difficult for them to heal successfully. If you have a client with this family dynamic, suggest opportunities for them to build supportive relationships outside of their family. These could include: - Attending group therapy - Support groups - Reaching out to neighbors - Hiking, comedy, sport, or other interest groups - Volunteering in the community

When clients come to us concerned about a relationship with a friend or loved one, it can be easy for us, as outsiders, to see the source of the problem â communication. Many clients, even those who have practiced communicating, often forget how different individual communication styles can be. Below, we discuss the benefits and limitations of each communication style when maintaining healthy relationships. Feel free to use this as a resource to share with your clients. https://lnkd.in/gdM8MMKD

âIn modern times, kratom has been adapted for a wider range of uses and is now commonly available in various forms, including powder, capsules, and extracts. This variety has made it especially popular as a self-administered treatment for managing pain and alleviating symptoms associated with opiate withdrawal. The accessibility of these forms has contributed to kratomâs growing popularity in the West, where it is often marketed as a natural alternative to prescription painkillers. However, this use is not without controversy due to concerns about its potential for addiction and adverse side effects.â Are you familiar with kratom? Substances come in many forms, making it difficult to recognize certain signs in loved ones. As professionals, we encourage sharing these signs of substance use: - Changes in friend groups - Putting off responsibilities - Changes in hobbies or lacking the drive to complete activities - Weight changes - Physical differences such as dark circles, skin changes, and tooth decay
