The photos are in! A few short weeks ago, hundreds of our partners, supporters, and friends gathered in Boston, Massachusetts, to celebrate the careers of retired Chief Kathleen M. OâToole and Washtenaw County (MI) Sheriff Jerry L. Clayton. The room was full of energy and pride as we recognized both honorees and celebrated, more broadly, the noble profession of policing. We hope you enjoy these photos from our event. More images can be seen here: https://hubs.li/Q02X1_wC0

The National Policing Institute operates the Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative and recognizes the value of peer-to-peer exchanges to develop best practices. The RVCRI team recently coordinated a visit for the Elizabethton Police Department to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to learn about its criminal investigations and internal affairs processes, crime scene investigation and documentation practices, and explore its real-time crime center. #RVCRI

Agencies nationwide have been preparing for Election Day, though some may still need resources. To help agencies before, during, and after ballots are cast, NPI, 21CP Solutions, and States United Democracy Center teamed up with law enforcement leaders nationwide and developed a guide for their colleagues around public safety during elections. Recently, NPI's President, Jim Burch, spoke with USA TODAY about how police should prepare: https://hubs.li/Q02Wsd4J0

NPI has recently launched its Affiliated Scholars Program. This cohort of highly accomplished researchers from across the country is led by NPIâs Chief Science Advisor, Dr. David Weisburd. Scholars from across academia, with research specialization in numerous areas of policing practice and crime reduction, will apply their knowledge and experience to our projects alongside NPIâs research team. These scholars will offer expanded perspectives and experience that supplement and amplify NPIâs highly regarded research, which is currently led by a team of more than 40 researchers, professional staff, and former police practitioners. Small and rural police agencies in the US need more resources, and NPI is dedicated to that cause. That is why we operate the Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative (RVCRI). In 2023, the RVCRI team provided 24 customized training and technical assistance to agencies across the country. During these engagements, the team offered policy samples and reviews, news releases and media resources, sexual assault investigator training, problem-oriented policing training, and conference attendance support.
