The National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) believes the best management of any patient with cancer is a clinical trial, but the idea of enrolling in a clinical trial may seem daunting. In this video, hear why Julio Piña, a patient with anaplastic ependymoma, and his wife Liz enrolled in a trial and what the process looked like. As co-director of NBTSâs DNA Damage Response Consortium, Ranjit Bindra, MD, PhD, brings years of experience and expertise in DNA damage response and biomarker-driven precision medicine approaches. Drugs designed to attack a tumorâs DNA damage response (DDR) network have already transformed other difficult-to-treat cancers like ovarian, pancreatic, and breast cancer. Through this consortium, world-class researchers across the U.S., including Dr. Bindra at Yale Cancer Center/Smilow Cancer Hospital, are working together to rapidly advance a new class of promising potential treatments that can stop a crucial mechanism of how malignant brain tumors grow. We encourage anyone interested in brain tumor drug development to check out this BioWorld News podcast featuring an interview with Ranjit Bindra, founder of recently exited Brain Tumor Investment Fund portfolio company Modifi Bio. In the interview, Dr. Bindra describes how he assembled the amazing Modifi team and the fundraising journey that ultimately culminated in an acquisition by Merck last month. Dr. Bindrea also highlights the important role of impact investors and venture philanthropy, and the strong part the National Brain Tumor Society/Brain Tumor Investment Fund played in catalyzing this opportunity. Once again, congratulations to Ranjit Bindra, Merck, Modifi, and our co-investors. This is an example of how we aim to help patients by making smart investments in emerging companies focused on developing new treatments for people with deadly brain tumors. #BrainTumorInvestmentFund #BTIF #NationalBrainTumorSociety
