It's World Diabetes Day—a day to bring awareness to diabetes prevention, screening, and treatment. The fact that 1 in 5 American adults with diabetes don't know they have it shows that millions of Americans may not be living in a way that's best for their long-term health. If you have diabetes, it's important to be aware of the risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of managing blood sugar. Today, let's work to raise awareness and encourage routine health checkups. Knowing your numbers and understanding your risk factors could make all the difference. If you think you may have diabetes, don't be afraid to talk about it with your doctor. It can be scary to get diagnosed with a chronic illness, but it's always much better to be informed of your health status than it is to be unaware of what you need.
