Do I have cancer? 🤞 Hopefully not! Reporting from sunny San Diego ☀ , where I just had the opportunity to experience Human Longevity, Inc.'s Whole Body MRI. If I were to describe it in a phrase, it was like top-notch research center x spa. From private lounge to colorful lights and peaceful nature scenes (I even caught up on some podcasts in the MRI), it was *vastly* different from my prior MRI experiences 🥠. Coming out to a healthy lunch was a nice touch as well. Most exciting to me as a physician and entrepreneur - HLI is opening up their MRI and whole genome sequencing services to non-members, meaning anyone can self-refer (DTC) or send over patients (B2B2C). Along with companies like Prenuvo and Ezra, this makes early cancer detection much more accessible. I actually first heard about whole-body screening MRIs years ago from my patients coming from Asia, where in many countries it's common practice. They have somehow figured out how to get the costs down such that everyone can get one, which is *very* different from the situation in the US 😠. A lot of folks are worried about the cost and labor (not to mention anxiety) of following up incidentalomas - which is tricky when you're in a litigation-filled healthcare system. But I'm of the camp that the data is valuable - but you absolutely need to ensure proper counseling going in, and debriefing through the info later on. In fact, that's pretty helpful for any medical test or intervention (psychedelic-assisted therapy, B12 shots, and brain scans alike) 😂 . Thanks again to Wei Zhou and the HLI team for the opportunity!
