"As she surveyed the concrete expanse broiling under the summer sun in September, Ms. Ross said she envisioned pedestrians instead of cars, trees instead of concrete, activity instead of emptiness." A description HKS' very own Sheba Ross Titus offers on our firm's work with the Georgia World Congress Center in a recent New York Times article.  Convention Centers have become a point of discussion â should cities still be spending money on these large spaces? Is it worth it? To Sheba, there is hope. She comments that this could be, "The perfect time to overhaul and upgrade aging complexes â transforming windowless fortresses that gobbled up city blocks, into world-class structures that are vital to the city."  Learn more about Sheba's vision for the future of convention centers and revitalizing urban spaces. https://lnkd.in/dYryyHp4 ð¸ by Christian Monterrosa The New York Times/Georgia World Congress Center Authority/Alexander Nazaryan #design #architecture

Last week, CADRE, HKS, and Center for BrainHealth had the privilege of bringing together leaders for the Building Brains Summit. The one-day event featured discussions about shaping the way we live, work, and learn to explore the future of brain health, brain capital and the built environment. As the day unfolded, the room was filled with ideas and collaboration, fueling a sense of optimism for how we can collectively advance brain health through our spaces and cities. Look at the key takeaways from the summit: â¶ï¸ Train your brainâneuroplasticity is possible at any age. â¶ï¸ Invest in the brain economy to address mental, fiscal, and planetary health. â¶ï¸ Create enriching environments for seniors that prioritize flourishing, not just safety. â¶ï¸ Prioritize learning and emotional resilience in high-stress work environments. â¶ï¸ Strengthen our natural connection to nature in both design and practice. â¶ï¸ Explore âexperiential plasticityâ through diverse, meaningful experiences that foster neuroplasticity. â¶ï¸ Build partnerships and coalitions to bridge research and real-world applications. We are grateful to all the experts for their thought-provoking insights and inspiring conversations including City of Dallas Council Member Jaynie Schultz for demonstrating how Texas can serve as a living laboratory for these vital conversations. Big thank to our sponsors â Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, Brain Capital Alliance, Perkins&Will, Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA), International Interior Design Association and Brain Health Action, AARP who helped make this event a success. #buildingbrains #buildingbrainscoalition
