ð A round of a-PAWS please! ð¾ For the 34th straight year, the Greenville Zoo earned accreditation through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the gold standard for institutions that provide world-class animal care and welfare. Less than 10% of zoos meet their rigorous standards. âBy visiting AZA-accredited facilities, visitors ensure they receive a wonderful educational experience in a safe environment where every animal they encounter receives the very best care,â says Dan Ashe, president and chief executive officer at AZA. AZA accreditation includes a detailed application and a meticulous multiple-day on-site inspection by an independent team of zoological professionals. The inspecting team analyzes animal care and well-being; veterinary care; staff training; visitor safety; educational programs; conservation efforts; financial stability; risk management; governance; and guest services. AZA facilities must complete the accreditation process every five years.

With great sadness, we announce the death of our remaining, majestic African Lion Chuma. He was humanely euthanized due to the rapid and irreversible worsening of his degenerative joint disease and spinal neurological issues. Chuma and his half-brother Saied came to the Greenville Zoo in 2010. Saied was humanely euthanized in March after suffering similar, age-related health ailments. The brothers were 15 years old. Chuma would have turned 16 on Friday. We are developing plans for a remembrance. Share your condolences to the zoo staff below. https://lnkd.in/epjcUx4C
