How can the transition to a climate-neutral world succeed? This weekend, the discussions and negotiations at #COP29 will once more revolve around this key question. Our Managing Director Ingrid-Gabriela Hoven is working with other German representatives and international cooperation partners in #Azerbaijan to implement the resolutions from the #ParisAgreement further and reduce climate-damaging emissions. ð To this end, she will be speaking at two events on Saturday: 1ï¸â£ NDCs 3.0: Supporting the next round of NDCs; 3rd Interagency Meeting with Development and Implementation Partners â° Starting at 09:00 AM (GMT+4, Baku Time) 2ï¸â£ Panel discussion âStrengthening the Role of Labor in Climate Actionâ â°Â 10:00 am â 11:30 AM (GMT+4, Baku Time) ð Location on site: German Climate Pavilion, Blue Zone, Zone E, C8 ð´ Livestream: https://lnkd.in/dzFbW_Rx Core elements of the Paris Climate Agreement are the Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDCs), which all signatory states must submit regularly. Among other things, the NDCs set out the measures that countries must take to limit global warming. GIZ is currently supporting 58 countries in achieving their NDCs through policy advisory services, technical assistance for implementation, and the strengthening of institutional capacities. At the meeting, Ms. Hoven will exchange ideas with development and implementation partners on action plans and initiatives to support countries in preparing the NDC 3.0. The panel discussion âStrengthening the Role of Labor in Climate Actionâ will highlight pathways to inclusive and sustainable climate strategies and examine how a #JustTransition should be reflected in NDCs. Together with other international organisations GIZ is working to support a just transition by fostering cross-border cooperation, knowledge sharing, and investment in sustainable development. On the panel, Ms. Hoven will explain, why it needs more cohesive global strategies and how it is still possible to successfully implement the transformation in times of increasing geopolitical tensions. Join on site or view the livestream. We wish all participants inspiring discussions. The employment potential in the #greeneconomy is evident: By 2030, around 100 million new jobs could be created in the field of renewable energy and the circular economy alone. But employment does not happen just because infrastructure, technology, and open job positions are available. The discrepancy between the demand and supply of green skills remains large and growing. The shortage of skilled workers in climate-relevant professions poses a significant challenge to the global transition to a âgreen and just economyâ and exacerbates the negative impacts of climate change. For the transformation to succeed, people and their skills need to be put at the center of it. This will require paying attention to job creation, education, and social protection. Yet only 40% of all Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) action plans include concrete measures for skills development. At #COP29, our Managing Director Ingrid-Gabriela Hoven will discuss this topic with representatives of governments, development agencies and the private sector: COP29 High-Level Roundtable âSkills for a Green and Just Economyâ ð 15th November â° 2:00 - 3:00 PM (GMT+4, Baku Time) ðLocation on site: Azerbaijan Pavilion #COPAzerbaijan #greenskills Jennifer Morgan Jochen Flasbarth Ramesh Subramaniam Nigar Arpadarai Andrew Steer Michael Bosse Adwoa Atta-Krah Rania A. "In South America, most media outlets are not working on audience or community skills regarding disinformation. We are busy putting out the fires. But we need to take responsibility as media outlets and as journalists. We have to take the time to educate and inform our audiences." - Michelle Nogales Cardozo, CEO, Muy Waso, Bolivia -  In order to achieve change, you have to bring people to the table. So this is what we did together with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH at this yearâs Paris Peace Forum. During our joint roundtable debate, we discussed strategies for tackling #fakenews and #disinformation with Michelle Nogales Cardozo from our partner Muy Waso in Bolivia, Ana Revenco, former Minister of Internal Affairs and director of the Centre for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation in the Republic of Moldova, Guilherme Canela de Souza Godoi, chief at the section for Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists at UNESCO and Aisha Dabo, co-founder and programs coordinator for AfricTivistes. By 2040, 60% of all vaccines used in Africa should be produced on the continent. To achieve this, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention Africa CDC estimates that at least 900 manufacturing employees will require upskilling. This underscores the urgent need for local production to ensure vaccine security and resilience. ð Together with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), GIZ South Africa, Lesotho & eSwatini are training over 100 professionals from the pharmaceutical industry and research sector in Good Manufacturing Practice, the highest standard in biomanufacturing. As the African vaccine market, currently valued at $1.3 billion, continues to expand, local production is key to unlocking its full potential. By investing in skills, infrastructure, and regulatory capacity today, we are laying the foundation for a healthier and more resilient Africa tomorrow. GIZ South Africa, Lesotho & eSwatini partners with Africaâs Department of Science, Technology and Innovation and Department of Health South Africa to strengthen Africa's vaccine production capacity and improving the quality of medicines. Through this cooperation GIZ is driving initiatives that enhance local production, regulatory capacity, and public health. How can the potential of green hydrogen be unlocked on the way towards a net zero economy? It definitely takes more than cheap electricity, but also a conducive environment, smart regulation, knowledge and green skills. Thus another strong case for financial and technical cooperation to work hand in hand! #COP29 is all about #ClimateFinance. MedellÃn in Colombia is a good example of how cities can become greener and more climate-friendly when they have the financial resources. Together with C40 Cities, we help cities around the world to develop and finance #NatureBasedSolutions and infrastructure projects that mitigate their impact on climate change. ð¤ Find out more about our work:  https://lnkd.in/dffnrMxH
Over the past two years, the C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) has been working on a transformative initiative: the Parques del RÃo Norte project with the AlcaldÃa de MedellÃn/ Agencia de Cooperación e Inversión de MedellÃn y el Ãrea Metropolitana. This ambitious linear park is being developed for implementation over several phases. The initial phase, prioritized by the Mayor's "MedellÃn te quiere" plan, not only promises to enhance the quality of life for citizens but also aims to create more than 1,700 new green jobs, significantly contributing to the city's health and sustainability. With an Internal Social Rate of Return of 28.67%, Parques del Rio Norte serves as an inspiring example of how Nature-Based Solutions can address the challenges of urbanization and climate change. At CFF, we are proud to be strategic partners in this mission, supporting MedellÃn on its journey toward a more sustainable and resilient future. The CFFâs third phase was supported byâ¯the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Agence Française de Développement, and USAID  The CFF is implemented byâ¯C40 Citiesâ¯andâ¯Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

ðð§ The GIZ Water and Sanitation Cluster at COP29 in Azerbaijan ð§ð I am pleased to share that the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Water and Sanitation Cluster will be making an active contribution to this yearâs #COP29. As we join global efforts in Azerbaijan, our focus will be on highlighting why water is a critical element of effective climate action. Water is not just a sector â itâs a vital connector across health, food security, and ecosystem resilience. By integrating WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) solutions into climate strategies, we address both mitigation and adaptation, helping communities build resilience against climate change impacts. We look forward to connecting at several key sessions that we will be co-organizing (details in the image below) and at the Water for Climate Pavilion in the Blue Zone. Letâs engage in dialogue on how integrated water solutions can drive sustainable climate action and foster resilience across sectors. We especially invite you to our joint session with Global Water Operators' Partnerships Alliance/UN-Habitat (GWOPA) on Climate-Resilient Infrastructure, Governance, and Financing, featuring an opening by Ingrid-Gabriela Hoven, Managing Director of GIZ on Wednesday November 13 (4:00pm to 5:30pm). See you there! #COP29 #ClimateAction #WaterforClimate #WASH #SustainableDevelopment
