Perplexity is debuting new shopping tools that it hopes will make its service a destination for product recommendationsâand maybe even actual purchases. The startup is also introducing a visual search feature in its app that lets its paid users find similar merchandise by snapping a photo of an itemâmuch like the âLensâ products offered by Google and Pinterest. The new tools, announced Monday, are part of a major push by Perplexity to be more of a one-stop hub for users and turn the 100 million weekly search queries it handles into a business. But for merchants, retailers, and brandsâor even consumersâthat want to understand how the companyâs AI decides which products to recommend, the startupâs CEO bluntly admitted he doesnât have the answer. At least not yet. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e9YbEw82

Incoming President Donald Trumpâs threat to impose 60% tariffs on all Chinese imports threatens more pain on an Chinaâs already struggling economy. Goldman Sachs predicts that Trumpâs proposed 60% tariffs on all Chinese imports will knock two percentage points off of Chinaâs GDP. Swiss bank UBS cut its 2025 China GDP growth forecast to around 4%, down from 4.5%, citing the possibility of U.S. tariffs. Yet despite the economic damage that these tariffs might cause, Fred Hu, founder of Chinese investment firm Primavera Capital Group, advised Beijing to hold back on retaliating to Trumpâs trade policy. âIf China chooses to retaliate and start a trade war, thatâs a lose-lose with global ramifications,â Hu said at the #FortuneGlobalForum. âI would urge the Chinese to stay cool. You should not retaliate.â Read more: https://lnkd.in/eEY_2TZB

In a candid discussion, Pompeo expressed confidence that President-elect Donald Trumpâs foreign policy in Ukraine would prioritize ensuring the Westâs victory in the ongoing war. Panetta highlighted the risks of Trumpâs economic agenda, including a potential surge in national debt, and reflected on missteps by the Democratic Party that contributed to Trumpâs election win. No need to pretend to be a jack of all trades to get aheadâa managerâs strength lies in admitting what they donât know, says Taco Bellâs CEO Sean Tresvant. Tresvant, who previously held executive positions at Nike and Sports Illustrated, was promoted to the top job at Taco Bell in January, after just three years at the Yum! Brands chain. He became a trailblazer upon his appointment as the first Black CEO to run the Mexican-inspired fast-food eatery. âWhen I transitioned from being the chief brand officer to the CEO, some great advice I got was, donât try to be a black belt in everything,â Tresvant revealed on LinkedInâs podcast "This Is Working With Daniel Roth", adding that it was the âbiggest surpriseâ during his transition to leadership.
