Dr. Francesca Mapua Filbey, a leading expert in addictive disorders, conducts innovative research on how cannabis use affects memory and sleep. The societal implications of her work are significant, as addictive disorders contribute to substantial health burdens and current treatments have limited effectiveness. DDespite growing interest inthe effects of caannabis and its application as a "sleep aid" te connection between cannabis, memory and sleep remains unde-researched by the scientific community..Dr. Filbey's recent collaboration with a team from the University of Amsterdam aims to fill this research gap by testing how sleep impacts memory among cannabis users. "Acute cannabis use affects many things, including sleep and working memory, and the field is undecided on whether those memory issues resolve after continued abstinence. When use begins in adolescence, sleep deficits are usually much more pronounced. People who become dependent on cannabis for sleep risk developing tolerance and requiring greater doses for the same effect. People need to be aware of this." â Francesca Filbey, PhD Director, NiRD Lab, Center for BrainHealth and UT Dallas Click the link to register for her talk and learn more about her groundbreaking research: https://lnkd.in/gW-JrpsP

Today is a beautiful reminder of the difference kindness makesâtransforming not just individuals but entire communities and our world. Itâs a call for us all to be intentional with our kindness, to spread compassion, and to lift others with genuine generosity. In the spirit of Word Kindness Day 2024, I want to extend my deepest thanks to Mallory Mbalia and everyone at Fred Rogers Productions. Their dedication to kindness and compassion, building on the legacy of Mr. Rogers and creating a vision for the future, is truly inspiring. Recently, I had the privilege of speaking at their annual "Back To School" eventâa day full of encouragement and warmth. Reflecting on the impact Mr. Rogers had on my own childhood, I felt a renewed belief in the power of kindness, especially in todayâs challenging times. So, on this World Kindness Day, let's celebrate kindness as the gift it truly is. Let's all share a little more of it.
