ð HOPE for the Week: Advancing Transplant Preservation Technology A recent study from the Udine transplant center highlights the benefits of using oxygenated hypothermic perfusion machines (MPs) in liver transplants. This innovative method has expanded the donor pool, especially for older donors, while maintaining successful outcomes. Additionally, allowing junior surgeons to work without time pressure, thanks to MP's versatility, has been greatly appreciated. This advancement supports both improved logistics and specialized surgical training. #HOPEfortheWeek #TransplantInnovation #OrganDonation #LiverTransplant

ð HOPE for the Week: Hypothermic Oxygenated Machine Perfusion (HOPE) shows promising results in improving outcomes for high-risk liver transplants from extended criteria donors (ECD) and donation after circulatory death determination (DCDD). A recent meta-analysis of studies comparing HOPE to static cold storage found that HOPE significantly reduces early allograft dysfunction, 12-month graft failure, re-transplantation, and biliary complicationsâcritical areas impacting recovery and long-term success for recipients of high-risk grafts. These findings underscore the potential of HOPE to enhance both patient outcomes and the overall effectiveness of liver transplantation. Further research will help refine these benefits and pave the way for even greater advancements in transplant care. #TransplantInnovation #LiverTransplant #OrganDonation #HOPE

ð HOPE for the Week: Innovative Liver Preservation Reduces Costs and Complications in DCD Transplants A new study evaluates the cost-effectiveness of Dual Hypothermic Oxygenated Machine Perfusion (DHOPE) in donation after circulatory death (DCD) liver transplants. Compared to traditional cold storage methods, DHOPE was shown to reduce overall costs by 12% up to one-year post-transplant. ICU and other hospital costs were also significantly reduced. With these advancements, weâre moving closer to optimized transplant care and better resource utilization across the healthcare system. #Transplantation #InnovationInHealth #OrganDonation #HOPE #DCDTransplants
