Congrats Ed Sim! Clearly a testament to the amazing founders in the boldstart ventures portfolio representing the latest in developer tooling, cybersecurity, and infrastructure software!

Ed Sim has been a seed-stage investor since long before that was even a thing in Silicon Valley. Darius Rafieyan reports: The year was 1996. At the time, he was living in New York and working as a low-level analyst at JPMorgan, using his rudimentary knowledge of Visual Basic to automate most of his job functions. His moment of clarity came when he first laid eyes on the Mosaic web browser, the precursor to the modern internet experience. In that moment, he decided he wanted to help back the software that would power the future. So 3,000 miles from venture capital's mecca, Sand Hill Road in Silicon Valley, Sim set out to become a venture capitalist.

Ed Sim got into venture capital by answering a newspaper ad. Today he's the industry's No. 1 seed investor.

Hot off the press: “What's 🔥 in Enterprise IT/VC - Issue #420" Why we boldstart ventures wrote our largest initial Inception check of $12.5M in Tessl and Guy Podjarny to build AI Native Software Development - what this means for Inception/seed fund sizing? Link to full post in comments

I want to dedicate a thank you to my great Seed investors, even while the bigger Series A number dominates the headlines. Ed Sim and I partner on many ventures, with me as co-investor or founder. He always thinks big and founder-first, ALWAYS hustles for his companies, and embedded that at the core of boldstart's excellent team. Tom Hulme and I met when he invested in Snyk, and now I'm proud to call him a close friend. He has the best analytical mind I know, coupled with an admirable humility and drive to help others. Both are great investors and even greater people, who make me and Tessl better. Beyond the Seed's leads, I’m proud to have many top tier founders and excellent individuals on the cap table, whose advice and support I cherish. I won’t start naming them, as some are private about their investments, but still wanted to acknowledge them and say thanks! Lastly, I want to call out two more investors - firstminute capital and Darkmode Ventures. Both put in small cheques in the seed round, and in a few short months provided outsized value. That made it a no brainer to offer them to double down on the Series A, and I’m happy they both did! As I mentioned below, we’re on a long journey with big ambitions. Having the right partners to support you and keep you accountable is critical - I couldn’t have asked for a better group of investors to share it with. https://lnkd.in/egGdRcpw

Excited to share Tessl raised $125M, to build out AI Native Software Development! This includes a $25M Seed from April, led by boldstart ventures & GV (Google Ventures), and a $100M Series A, led by Index Ventures with Accel, GV and boldstart participating. Full blog on raise and mission here: https://tessl.co/3Z2BUJM I’m humbled by the vote of confidence in our team and mission from these amazing investors. We’re well aware that reimagining software development is quite an undertaking, and that the journey to it will be challenging - making it all the more important to have the right partners for the journey. I see this round as recognition of the incredible team we've assembled to take this on. Their work isn’t visible yet, but I’m regularly amazed by the depth and speed of thinking and execution in our founding team. Not only are they a group of brilliant people, they're also fun, caring and driven. I’m truly grateful they’ve chosen to join this journey. At the end of the day, funding is a means, not an end. These funds give us a strong and long term foundation to build with, and we’ll invest them in helping the AI Native Dev movement succeed through both product and community growth. A huge thanks to all the early users giving us feedback, and to the forming joiners of our AI Native Dev community (check out their work on the 𝐀𝐈 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐂𝐨𝐧 on Nov 21st: https://tessl.co/3AGjkOa ) With that, we get back to building!

Thanks for having me Brent! We at boldstart ventures are more excited than ever about what's next with agentic workflows and the opportunity to reimagine how work gets done in the future. No one knows who's going to win - AI native, incumbents, 7 year old private startups but regardless this is where the fun comes in - the opportunity to compete and shape the future as the prize is bigger than ever!

    Partner, CRM Essentials

I recently asked Scott Beechuk, Alex Bard and Anand Thaker - all #VCs and advisors to enterprise app vendors - if the massive disruption #AI is causing now will lead to an unknown startup dethroning incumbents like Salesforce and ServiceNow from their market-leading positions in the next 5-7 years. So when I spent a few good (actually great) minutes with inception investor and founder of boldstart ventures Ed Sim this question he did not hesitate to say yes, and how it could happen. Check out what he said in this short clip. Check out the whole convo at https://lnkd.in/eBkHY2sh. Check out how Scott, Alex and Anand answered it at https://lnkd.in/eAsNfbyg. And check out how Larry Augustin and Keith Teare when they answer it on today's CRM Playaz show 3pm et today at https://lnkd.in/ejuzGMFk. #agenticworkflows

Fun to be part of building something new here in Miami 🌴! And yes, always trying to bring more Israeli 🇮🇱 founders here. More and more enterprise tech founders quietly moving, burgeoning cybersecurity community, one of 4 cities with direct flights from US to Israel, easy access to NYC and west coast, easier to manage time zone change, great weather, and capital allocators all here. What's been most interesting aspect is the "random walk" idea of connectivity. There are so many conferences, offsites, sales kickoffs, management meetings that you never know who's in town week to week and that variability keeps it quite interesting and one connected. So much more to do - come check it out and join us!
