Anthropic has been working with the Energy Department's nuclear specialists to make sure there's no way to get Claude to spit out sensitive nuke information. It's a first-of-its-kind partnership that's been going on since April and shared with me today. The National Nuclear Security Administration has been red teaming Claude 3 Sonnet and is now working on testing Claude 3.5 Sonnet. Anthropic also believes this is the first time a frontier model has been used in a top secret setting. The pilot program is running through February, and it could pave the way for similar partnerships in the future — that is, if the Trump administration is still interested in them.
