It’s very important to see both sides of the field, the one you are standing on and the other one across the fence. That will make the picture much more clearer. The same goes with the boss and the employee. We often think that the bosses and the CEO’s are getting paid more with hardly any work but that’s not the case. It’s those people who experiences a lot of stress, tension, anxiety and they worry about their company and the employees. Some people have the ability to hide that and the others can’t. So, before criticising or complaining we should know the bosses’ perspectives and point of views and then act accordingly. It would be great if we can come to some help to them as well. Money is always the byproduct and a tool.

I often feel that humiliating or scolding someone in front of other members, whether is schools, colleges or in offices is not a good sign. Instead of listening and understanding the mistake/s their minds are on the others of what they will think about me. Instead, all of these things should be discussed in a private place or when nobody is around. That way the mistakes are understood well and there is a hope for a better comeback in the future. The intent of pointing out the mistakes or giving feedback should be correct and useful. If that’s not the case then it can turn really ugly. So, in my opinion, the right place and time is the best way to learn and clean up the mess!

Coming from a cultural background where criticism is served in a much more straight up fashion, this one has always been hard for me. Even after 20 years of living in North America, I still often perceive the complimentary layers of this sandwich as decoy and a time waster. If you are unable to raise your criticism in a way that's respectful and demonstrates your care for a shared goal, then dressing it up in niceness isn't going to be the answer for me. Having explored this with other Europeans, I can confirm that this is not an uncommon experience. Curious to hear how people from other cultures experience this approach to offering criticism. Any straight up criticism welcome.

The filling in the Sandwich is the most important thing. The bread is just a side character to support the filling in the middle. But, I think Sandwiching is a really good way to approach in these types of situations. See, we don’t know how the boss or anybody is in the time of those discussions right? The boss can be happy, sad, overwhelmed, anxious, scared, irritated or even angry. So, the best way to approach is to fill in the criticism and the negativity right between some praises, appreciations and positivity. Then wait impatiently for the final impact!

Lead by Example. Demonstrate a willingness to accept feedback yourself and make improvements based on it. Leading by example can encourage your boss to adopt a similar attitude towards constructive criticism.
