I've been a database guy for a long time. What I am seeing / hearing now is that very few college grads are looking for database jobs. It kind of makes sense because databases are so well hidden (behind their favorite apps). The reality is that for every great app, there is an even better database behind it. I've made it my mission to educate young workers on the virtues of database engineering and management. I walk them through the basics of database operations and then have them write a web-app which leverages the database. This shows them how important database engineering is and opens their eyes to a role that is relevant in almost any organization - including mine. Good database guys are hard to find, so I make my own!

While much emphasis is placed on “Knowledge Sharing,” the true differentiator lies in one’s ability to master the art of Storytelling. It’s not just about recounting successes; often, it’s the candid tales of our setbacks that resonate more deeply. Take, for example, story when I brought down a wrong DB due to multiple open terminal windows (Oops!). But going forward I ensured to use color coding for Prod DB terminals and also double checking DB name. Sharing this harrowing yet educational experience can encourage others to be meticulous in their work and understand that even seasoned professionals can encounter mishaps. Such stories create a culture where the fear of failure is diminished, and the collective journey of growth is embraced

So yeah definitely giving back to the community because I think that as a database engineer and then programmer and general basically I feel as though it's not an easy field to want to get into it's kind of daunting task becoming an engineer or a architect when you get into looking at all of the programming and what goes into it and designing and what goes into that as well it becomes overwhelming sometimes and so I feel like if you're there as a mentor for someone else then maybe that overwhelming sense of fear or anxiety May subside somewhat for the mentee and that way when they're learning and they're going through that process they'll be able to overcome those obstacles with more ease than what someone who didn't have a mentor would've

For almost 2 decades I have been working in the field of database administration and it brings a lot of satisfaction and fulfilment when I can see the growth of a colleague I am mentoring or I can see the good practice shared by me and put in place by a developer. There is a say: "sharing is caring" but in fact sharing knowledge by teaching, documenting, explaining bad practice by using arguments and proves makes us better professionals and bring a lot of quality by spreading the influence. One DBA cannot do what several teams together can. Sharing is in fact one of the best way of making some progress.

Yo tuve, hace muchos años, a un chico al que estuve introduciendo y formando en BB.DD. Oracle. Desafortunadamente por cambios laborales dejé su formación a medias (aunque bastante avanzado). Años después, sin haber vuelto a saber de él, me lo encontré como DBA Senior en un proyecto. El me agradeció la introducción y formación en dicha área y yo me sentí orgulloso de trabajar con él e incluso ¡aprender algunas cosas de mi “alumno”!

Every mentorship opportunity I've had has benefited me as much as my mentee. Besides the clear benefits previously described, the biggest point of growth has always been the new approach in sharing knowledge required for every mentorship relationship. New ways of approaching or explaining concepts leads to new ways of understanding and leveraging concepts. This has held true across every mentorship domain, field, and topic area. Adapting my knowledge to someone else's learning approach is dynamic and rewarding in its own right, and if you aren't adapting your teaching to best suite your mentee, you are missing out on one of the best mentorship features - expanding your teaching techniques is an improvement of the highest value.
