Liquid biopsy can also be employed for detecting minimal residual disease (MRD) and cancer recurrence post-treatment. Recent trends focus on enhancing isolation and detection of ctDNA and other biomarkers, increasing sequencing coverage and depth, and developing standardized and validated assays and protocols in liquid biopsy.

For some cancers liquid biopsies are highly preferred to tumor tissue biopsies in order to avoid great discomfort, pain and even increased mortality of patients. So it is critical that accuracy, reliability and standardization of tests using liquid biopsy happen in the future. Covering these aspects would enable liquid biopsy use as a standard in oncology practice to meet patient care needs.
