It will always lead to unexpected challenges. The real challenge always in your own business is not the success of it, is the turn around pivot. Every business owner will reach this stage, and multiple times at that. Unexpected challenge is always a result of an untested assumption. For eg we may have assumed a certain customer behaviour in response to our reach out. And found that it didn't work out at all. Be aware of the assumptions. test them. Even when you reach the unexpected point - you will be deciding on a new course of action. Again based on some assumptions. Test. Test. Test.

The thing about new ideas is that you need to asses the risk tolerance of it's application. Once the stakeholders buy the vision then it's a lot easier to take action and caring less about what would happen. Being in business is all about calculated risk and sometimes we need to take intuitive decisions no matter how much data and informed decisions we already have.
