There is no substitute for life long learning and particularly in a constantly changing field like sustainability and renewable energy. You will have a much better chance for higher pay and promotion in the market place IF you earn a fundamentals focused, specialization option, masters degree, and if you use this "lens" to select relevant/reliable information over your career. Employers still reward relevant masters degrees as a signal of low maintenance, management eligible employees. I routinely hear employers and HR directors say they love life long learners. One to two masters degrees with professional certification is the new norm for competitiveness for good jobs. These professionals pivot faster with change and are more innovative.

One thing I've found helpful to stay updated is via online courses and certifications which is crucial in sustainability. These programs not only enhance expertise but also boost credibility and career prospects. I personally did the Cambridge University CISL Sustainability Essentials for Business certification and I feel that such industry-recognized certifications provide comprehensive knowledge on various aspects, ensuring sustainability consultants are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of renewable energy landscapes and contribute meaningfully to the sector's growth. For renewable energy, another certification that exists in the market is the Renewable Energy Professional (REP) by Association of Energy Services Professionals.
