Here's what I'd love to impart when it comes to proofreading -- infuse your writing with excitement by embracing variety in sentence structure, length, and type. Imagine the narrative dance e.g. short, snappy sentences followed by a lyrical flow, all contributing to an engaging story. In a typical sentence, instead of a straightforward structure like, "I went home; John called Mark," you could create a more nuanced structure, such as, "Homeward bound, I wondered what was left in my fridge, while across town, John persistently dialled Mark who didn’t pick up. Little did he know that his calls were met with silence, because Mark was meeting up with me. This approach adds complexity and engages the reader with varied sentence structures.

Set expectations for the client. For example, if a client wants a 24-hour turnaround on a grossly-flawed document, immediately tell the client you haven't been given sufficient time to create a Cadillac; there's only time for a Chevrolet. Then, work hard to exceed your stated limitations.
