In my experience everything has a time and a place. The majority of the time I shoot everything manual, from exposure to white balance it gives me complete creative control. However there are times when auto adds to what your trying to achieve. Let’s take an event for example, a large scale event with indoor outdoor scenes, different lighting environments, shooting in automatic allows you as the creator to focus on the angles, the people and the story. That isn’t to say every event should be in automatic just to consider the setting and most importantly the end goal, where’s it going? If it’s a social media piece of content not having full control won’t always be a deal breaker.

Using camera modes like a pro involves mastering both auto and manual modes: 1. 📸 **Auto Mode**: - Use when capturing spontaneous moments. - Suitable for times when you're in a hurry. - Helpful in unfamiliar lighting conditions.💡 - Keep in mind its limitations in capturing specific moods or challenging situations.🤔

Auto mode is like the training wheels of your camera: Quick & Easy: Perfect for spontaneous shots and fast-paced scenarios. Adaptable: Great for beginners or when you’re unfamiliar with the environment. Limitations: Beware in low light or high contrast; auto mode can falter. Lack of Control: For specific moods or effects, manual settings are key. Remember, while auto mode is convenient, mastering manual settings unlocks your camera’s full potential.

Program mode is great for still photos, not so great for video. It keeps a combo of shutter + aperture adjustments, exposing based on the exposure index you set (if you want your shots to be a little brighter or darker than what the camera considers at exposure). The problem when using this mode for video is you can get an inconsistent shutter angle from shot to shot, which can make each take look different and not consistent when you edit the video together.

Program mode is your step up from auto, blending convenience with control: 1. Semi-Automatic: The camera handles the basics, but you’ve got a say in ISO, white balance, and more. 2. Program Shift: A handy feature for tweaking aperture and shutter speed while maintaining exposure. 3. Creative Flexibility: Ideal for when you’re ready to infuse more of your style into shots. 4. Versatile: From portraits to landscapes, program mode adapts without overwhelming. Remember, program mode is your bridge between the simplicity of auto and the precision of manual. Use it to start shaping your visual signature.

Aperture priority is great for still photos but definitely not recommended for video. It will change your shutter angle shot to shot or even while recording, which can capture movement differently throughout your video. Not only may the movement look weird, having this inconsistency could ruin the edit when you try to put everything together.

Aperture priority mode is your creative companion: 1. Depth of Field Control: You set the aperture; the camera adjusts the rest. 2. Focus on Creativity: Perfect for playing with focus and blur, especially in portraiture or macro shots. 3. Instead of using auto mode when you dont have time to capture a moment, specificly at an event taking photos of people, Shutter priority would save your life! Just set your shutter speed according to movement speed of people if they are walking or etc and go! Just keep in mind even if nobody is moving too much and you would shoot them while they’re talking for example, do not set your shutter speed under 1/60 or 1/80 to prevent blurry faces.

If I want a balance of auto-exposure because I'm doing a fast moving shoot, yet want to have some control over the camera and the way the image is recorded, shutter priority is the mode I go with - especially when recording video on a mirrorless or DSLR camera. It locks off your shutter angle and adjusts the aperture for exposure - great when you don't have time to manually adjust yourself but you don't want the camera to change the shutter speed, which could create a weird perception of how motion is captured (and ruin your video edit). Real video/cinema cameras work off shutter angles - 180 degrees is the default setting that renders motion 'normally.' If your camera can't do shuttler angles, set the shutter speed to 1/50.

For videography, Shutter Priority is the best mode to be in while you are learning. It keep the shutter speed constant so that the video movement looks the way it should, and the camera makes aperture and ISO changes for you in changing light conditions. You will want to use manual mode for the most control when you become more experienced.

Beyond camera modes, consider these: 1. Know Your Gear: Each camera has unique quirks. Spend time getting to know yours. 2. Practice in Varied Conditions: Don’t wait for a gig to try a new mode.
