The two leadership attributes I’ve found to be crucial is “self-awareness”, and “situational-awareness”. If you know your own strengths, and the strengths of each team member, you could leverage these individual strengths to cover weaknesses of the “tribe” / team that may exist. Hence, the importance of “diverse teams”, hiring wisely and welcoming diversity and individuality, hire smarter than yourself ! The competing values framework is an excellent framework to adapt leadership styles based on the environment, culture, organizational objectives, practices, people and purpose. “Be open to anything, attached to nothing”, find the FLOW for your organization / team.

A leader does not necessarily have just one style. Leadership styles can vary greatly depending on the individual's personality, the context in which they are leading, the needs of the people they are leading, and the goals they are trying to achieve. Appropriate leadership style can significantly improve employee performance by affecting their work motivation. A single leadership style is not appropriate for all situations, and a leader may borrow elements of another style or completely change their style based on the situation.

Being a leader is not easy. You have to lead a diverse group of people with different backgrounds and experiences. As a leader, it is important to recognize and embrace these differences. In my experience as a leader, I have learned that it is crucial to be open-minded and flexible in your approach. Sometimes, you need to be a motivator, while other times you need to step back and let others take the lead. Being a leader is not about leading people, but it's about leading other leaders who are waiting for an opportunity to step up. Encourage collaboration, but intentionally partner with other leaders to lead.

One of the keys to encouraging team collaboration is to develop a sense of group identity. As humans, we naturally cooperate with others who we see as in the same group. The trick is to ensure each person feels they benefit from affiliating with the team group. Our brains are simply not wired to respond to money. Instead, people want to get the signals they value (i.e. meeting motivational "needs"). Values match motivations, strengths, and personality. As a leader, if you can enable each member to use their strengths to satisfy their needs, the team will naturally cooperate. Think less about your own personality or style, and more about how their needs can be met. This is one way Servant Leadership promotes cooperation.

Encouraging collaboration with different leadership styles involves emphasizing shared goals, promoting mutual respect, and encouraging a culture of inclusivity. Provide opportunities for diverse perspectives, celebrate individual strengths, and create a collaborative environment where everyone feels valued. Adaptability and recognizing the value in various approaches can bridge different leadership styles for effective teamwork.

Den eigenen Führungsstil steuern zu können ist extrem mächtig. Dafür lohnt es sich seine eigenen Stärken und dominantesten Führungsstil zu kennen. Oft haben wir dann Situationen, in denen wir mal einen anderen Führungsstil ausprobieren können. Dabei geht es nicht darum, sich zu verstellen. Sondern darum, eine andere Facette von sich einzusetzen. Oft haben z.B. introvertierte Führungspersonen Respekt davon, sich durchzusetzen. Wieso aber nicht mit guten Argumenten punkten, zuhören und zusammen eine Lösung aushandeln. Auch das ist Durchsetzungsvermögen. Einfach auf eine sehr feinfühlige Art.

Oft haben wir in Projekten oder als gesamtes Team fixe Ziele. Weshalb diese aber nicht mit den persönlichen Zielen der einzelnen Mitarbeitenden abgleichen? Es ist extrem mächtig, wenn wir individuelle Ziele und grösser angelegte Ziele gemeinsam erreichen können.

Es lohnt sich hier zu unterscheiden: Wo ist eine fehlende Stärke für mich hinderlich? Dann lohnt es sich daran zu arbeiten. Oder besser: Herauszufinden mit welcher Stärke ich die Schwäche ausgleichen kann. Wenn aber die Schwäche durch eine Stärke anderer Teammitglieder abgedeckt werden kann, dann dies unbedingt nutzen. Genau dafür ist ein Team da.

You can also encourage collaboration by providing leadership training; offer leadership training that helps individuals understand and appreciate different leadership styles. Doing this can enhance their ability to work effectively with colleagues who have contrasting approaches to leadership.
