Its another to engage someone with recruiting and career development experience that can support you through the process. There are different methods that can be used like the STAR, SOAR, and CAR methods. In addition, I like to allow the job seeker to offer a self-assessment. This way, I can see their level of self-awareness and see where their feedback for themselves aligns with mine as a starting point.

Ideally, if you have a friend, colleague or mentor with recruiting or career coaching experience, that would be ideal to connect with them. However, you can partner with anyone who is great at interviewing or excels in verbal communication. If you don't have a network with people who fit into any of the types mentioned, its worth investing in a career coach that offers mock interviewing as a service.

To make your role-playing session more effective, you should set up some ground rules and expectations. This may include choosing a time and place that is convenient and comfortable for both parties, deciding on the duration and format of the session, agreeing on the role and scenario to practice, preparing questions and answers relevant to the role and scenario, and gathering any materials or tools that you need. For example, you could have a 30-minute mock interview followed by a 15-minute feedback session, pretending that you are applying for a project manager position at a tech company with your partner as the hiring manager. You can use online resources, job descriptions, or your own research to come up with some possible questions and answers.
