It's a fact we'll fail. It's a fact we'll be disappointed. This reality. For sure failure is reaal and we can't run or hide from it. No should we. It's dangerous to not live not in reality. It's strength to understand the truth and acknowledge it in all situations.

I heard someone recently say that failure is not fatal. It can feel fatal when the money is running out and revenue isn't coming in. It is very uncomfortable. What's important is to take that uncomfortable feeling and use it as fuel to learn and grow. Failing is the best way to learn what not to do again. I've failed multiple times in hiring the wrong person. I've failed in trusting large corporations to care about a small business. Through all that, I've learned and I've grown. Stronger. And I will keep learning and growing.

Yes, analyze, but here's why you shouldn't dwell too long in analysis. Mistakes pile up. Identify the mistake, determine how you'd do it next time, and then sweep it off the court. There will be more mistakes. But there will also be more opportunities -- don't get so distracted by your mistakes that you can't capitalize on the big chances.

My advice here is don’t get stuck in weeds. Sure, spend a bit of time analyzing and then move on. The word “analysis” scares me a bit. Can get stuck here and then lose the ambition to try new things. Learn from it, get over it and move on.

Mistakes are painful but they are invaluable deposits in your and your team's bank of experience. Think about Super Bowl winners and their victory speeches - what do they always talk about? The obstacles they've had to overcome along the way, the teammates they overcome them with, and the trust they built in each other that served as the foundation for winning a championship.

Reconsider what you call failing. To reconsider means assessing the goal as well as the capability and capacity needed for achievement. For example, when we launched my coaching deck I wanted to hit particular sales numbers. We didn't hit those numbers. Thank God! Because what I learned was that, if we had hit those numbers, I would have been in a hell of my own making. We didn't have the infrastructure for the sales numbers that I wanted. We didn't have the fulfillment systems in place for the sales numbers that I wanted. We were not ready for the sales numbers that I wanted. Sometimes even when you create a SMART goal, you may find that it wasn't that smart in the first place. THAT'S OKAY! Take your lessons and level up.
