Some risks you can mitigate, some risks you can manage. Mitigating Risks:- 1. Legal Risks: protect the name of your company and any ideas and names you come up with. 2. Financial Risks: securing adequate funding and maintaining a healthy cash flow. 3. Market Risks: validate your business idea, understand your market, and anticipate market demand. Managing Risks:- 1. Operational Risks: what happens if you become sick or need a vacation? 2. Technological Risks: if your idea is based on a certain technology, how might it be outdated the moment you go to market? 3. Competitive Risks: do you have an eye on the competition or have you managed yourself into a category of one?

Who you know is sometime more important than what you know, unfortunately. So building a strong network is always key to growing a business. In business, your network can often be more valuable than what you know. Connections can open doors to opportunities that you might not access otherwise. Actively engage in networking opportunities, such as industry events, conferences, and online forums. Cultivate these relationships by providing value and staying in touch.

People will want to help you, but only if two requirements are met: 1. They need to know you are actively asking for their help 2. They need to know what you are specifically looking for in terms of help. You won't get the help if you aren't clear yourself, so make sure that your pitch and key messages are as clear and relevant as possible.

In addition to networking, cultivating strong connections in business is based on your social capital investment in the people already in your network who can support you in various ways. Make sure you keep them up to date with your progress, challenges, and needs. Ask for the resources you lack. You'd be surprised how much people in your "squad" have to offer but you won't know unless you reach out.

When we build our networks, it's a good idea to go about it without being overly ambitious or seeming as if we are always trying to get something from others. The primary purpose of building a network is to create that sense of connection. Rather than being narrowly focused and thinking connection A is a potential business partner, connection B is a potential client, etc, we can treat people as people. Everyone wears different hats and takes on different roles in our network, and be prepared for our connections to wear different hats. Be someone who contributes to, shows gratitude, and provides for your network, not just a taker.

As i keep saying, networking is not just about making connections; it’s about nurturing and maintaining those relationships. Regularly follow up with your contacts, offer assistance, and stay engaged. Building strong, reciprocal relationships will provide you with a robust support system and valuable resources. The point about finances is not so much that you need to have a bookkeeper or dedicated software for the invoicing. It is rather an exercise in forecasting. If you can forecast accurately, you will be able to make sound financial decisions about where to invest your money. To be able to forecast, you will need to make great discovery.

Cash flow rules! Until you have a clear path to cash, the risk remains high or at least unknown. Optimism is not a plan yet is quite often the foundation of all too many financial forecasts. Do yourself a favor and overestimate your expenses while being conservative with your revenues. Name your customers. Book deals in advance. Recognize that income takes time to land in your bank account. The cash flow forecast is the most important financial management tool you have. Study the competition and learn how they navigated their startup.

A great way to learn or brush up on your business skills is to join a local accelerator program for entrepreneurs. In my experience working with entrepreneurs in my county who participate in these programs, they start out at an advantage because they have invested in their growth and been part of a power cohort that helps support and champion them.

One of my favorite things that Adam Grant mentions in "Think Again" is to have a Challenge Network. We want to look to people who support us, but also those who are going to give us feedback about the areas where we need to improve ourselves and hold us accountable. In addition, ask those around us what podcasts, books, or resources they are reading or learning about. It's always a good idea to be part of some sort of learning organization, such as the Association for Talent Development, or even to join a local book club--any organization that has the purpose of learning first.

Your learning curve is steep especially at the beginning. However as you progress and you make more money you can start to surround yourself with people who have the skills knowledge and talent you need to move forward. Delegation and putting together winning teams then become more important if you are to grow as a business.

Questions about exit strategies from the very beginning is important. What risks are you prepared to take and for how long? Is it better to decide an exit point based on evidence of a start-up not working rather or to close the project because it is being forced upon you?

Gain clarity around the following four questions 1) Who are my customers? 2) What is their problem/pain-point, that my enterprise will resolve/redress? 3) Why would they prefer my solution over that of competition/alternatives? 4) How will I create and deliver the product/service/experience, at a cost less than the price, the customers would be willing to pay? And, you will know how to navigate your enterprise through all the uncertainties and risks!

Start Small, Build on your strength. Have a safety net Consult with your family before starting as it will provide emotional strength and support. In the beginning I did not think to earn lots of money. Build trust with the client . After all it's all about people and relationships. Let go if something doesn't go you thought. Move on to the next project. Perfection is a myth ... Put 100 percent effort. DONT try to control the uncontrollable. Hope this helps

The biggest thing that hasn't been addressed in this article is the fact that your mindset will be responsible for up to 80% success. Being a start up Entrepreneur is not easy. In fact its really tough. You need to be prepared for the down times and the pressure. Hire a coach or mentor than help you build mental resilience and the ability to take action.

There are two approaches people tend towards 1) Develop a side gig & only dive in when your business at the self sustaining phase VS 2) BURN THE BOATS, FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION. This is a false choice. Unless you are independently wealthy and have no expenses, #2 is generally more risk than most folks can tolerate. However, unless you have an extraordinary level of personal motivation, commitment and spare time #1 is usually self defeating since it lacks a "force function" to keep you committed and on task. Rather learn from the underlying theme of these two approaches: 1)Manage financial risk while your business viability is uncertain 2)Create your business around a motivation that is powerful and enduring

If you haven’t , hone your leadership skills. As a business owner you will inevitably need to lead people. Think of great leaders you have worked for and try to embody those traits. You also need to get really effective at leading yourself. If you can’t lead yourself, how are you ever going to lead others.
