Post COVID it did not yield the results we wanted. Our Development Manager recommended we host a brunch instead. The event focus stayed the same in honoring people who helped us fulfill our mission to make a difference in many lives. The format changed and breathed fresh air into the event, also yielding $12,000 above budget!

I seemed to have arrived at these questions related to handling of failure after quite a number of responses that I tend to agree with. A question that is burning inside of me is 'how, after the fall of the former Soviet Union, bilateral and major donors, funded democracy-building programming?' would be how I want to look at this question. Since I was involved, it is a chance to reflect... Accepting how 75+ years of the communist system, led by Russia, left people in so many countries with blurred sense of realities is an important dynamic to discuss.

Success must not be counted in terms of numbers or monetary benefits. The impact an individual has created and the efforts given by him must be counted. All we need the intention, rest follows in building more strong team.

One thing I have found most helpful is to remain mission-minded. When you and your team experience a set-back, after taking the time to investigate the who, what, where, and when of the incident - take time to refresh the team’s understanding of why* you do what you do. While set-backs can feel like failure, they only become a collective failure when the organization loses sight of it’s mission and acts out of scarcity (especially in philanthropy) rather than Mission. When you have a clear vision and a committed team, set-backs do not have to equate to failure, and in fact can lead to the necessary refinements that ensure a holistic growth path for your organization.
