Once you are in a conflict, the most important thing is to remember that their mentors/leaders are there to give them guidance. They can help you with the right ways of resolving rather than trying things on your own and creating a bigger mess.

Conflicts are inevitable in a team setting. The key is to address them head-on. In my experience, it’s important to create a safe space for open dialogue, understand all perspectives, and find a common ground or compromise.

Technology can definitely be a strong competitive edge, but also an additional skill that can take you far ahead from others. Having right abilities around your workplace software, tools and systems will help you build that competency and agility that would add to your contributions towards organization as well your leaders.

In today’s digital age, there are numerous tools that can aid communication and collaboration. From project management tools like Asana, to communication platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams, these can greatly enhance productivity and teamwork.

Whenever possible, become a subject matter expert in emerging technologies related to the field. As an intern your innate professional inexperience can be bolstered by becoming the go-to person for clarity and rapid utilization of new technologies. Additionally, it should improve your status/relationship with your mentor; or put you on the radar of organizational leaders if you have not yet found a mentor.

You may get lucky that you have a natural connector as a mentor - introducing you to others in the company with ease, set up informational interviews, etc - but in reality that rarely happens, which means that you will always need to be the cultivator of your own relationships: 1) Want to connect with senior leaders - ask your supervisor to help work on a plan for outreach & scheduling informational interviews 2) If introduced to new staff during a project, reach out after to introduce yourself offer an intro meeting or follow-up on Linkedin 3) If someone shares an interest aligned to yours, pull that thread & maybe share a funny meme or article - keeping the convo going The key is for you to proactively reach out, not wait for an invite.

The key to effective communication and collaboration begins with you, and how you show up EVERY TIME. When I care for myself correctly, I can't help but care for you- authenticity wins! The internship doesn't matter.
