Quando estava fazendo Estágio de Ensino de Química no Ensino médico, fui voluntária em uma biblioteca comunitária que ficava em frente a escola, e pude perceber que muitos alunos que não iam bem em Química amavam ler. E muitas vezes eram leitores vorazes de temas de mitologia, fantasia e /ou romance. Saber disso mudou minha visão sobre ser aluno e suas habilidades, me mostrou que podemos transformar a Química de cientistas para uma Química para todos se soubermos usar as ferramentas certas. Não se usa um machado para lapidar um diamante e muito menos um diamante para cortar papel. Se até para os ofícios se tem ferramentas certas para lapidar, quem dirá para um aluno em fase de absorção de conhecimento.

Os professores precisam se conectar aos alunos para ter uma transmissão de conhecimento efetiva, alunos não são uma plantação de abóboras onde pode-se jogar o mesmo fertilizante que elas frutificarão. Não! Costumo dizer que uma sala de aula é como um grande campo florido com diversas flores silvestres, ervas aromáticas e até ervas daninhas. Cabe ao professor regar as ervas aromáticas, adubar as flores e podar as ervas daninhas , assim o crescimento vem e com ele, o conhecimento.

Use LinkedIn and X (twitter) to connect with other educators. It's important to try and connect with people who have different points of view and different ideologies. It's very easy to quickly end up in an echo chamber that only reinforces the views you already hold and doesn't allow you to see the wider landscape of education.

Always carry a business card on you. Follow up with emails when making a new connection as well. You never know when you may run into that connect in the future.

Try new things, if you think it works, ask for a second or even third opinion, explain what you're trying and invite a colleague to observe and offer their thoughts, give them a narrow focus for observation and explain that you are specifically looking for feedback on the thing you are trying. Find ways to measure impact, ask yourself, "if this goes well, what should I expect to see or what should my students be able to do or articulate?".
