You must start by establishing clear quality standards and guidelines. You should implement regular data validation checks and encourage collaboration between teams. Also, provide training to ensure everyone understands the importance of data quality, and use automated tools to streamline the monitoring process.

In my experience, Audit revolve around processes but is mostly about knowledge. As such, I would - first, identify and assign business stakeholders that will be responsible for data sets - then, I would create metrics to quantify the quality of such data sets - followed by a documentation of the audit findings - and conclude with a data catalog to capitalize on the work done.

In my experience a data audit involves regularly reviewing and analyzing the data used in architecture projects to ensure it is accurate, complete, and up-to-date. It is important to identify any gaps, errors, or inconsistencies in the data. Capture such quality metrics and document the same. Once that is done you can fix issues early, ensuring that decisions are based on reliable information. This process also helps maintain data integrity throughout the project.

Here’s how you can enhance data quality in architecture projects: 1. Establish Data Governance: Set clear data standards, ownership, and accountability to ensure consistency. 2. Automate Data Validation: Implement tools to automate checks for accuracy, completeness, and integrity during data ingestion and processing. 3. Integrate Data Lineage: Track data origins and transformations to maintain transparency and trust in your data pipeline. 4. Use Master Data Management (MDM): Ensure consistency by creating a single source of truth across systems. 5. Continuous Monitoring: Regular audits and real-time monitoring help detect anomalies early, enabling proactive corrections.

Cleansing data means we can benchmark entries with a norm. This is doable once: 1) Data elements were qualified as Master Data - Or at least codified 2) Data was audited by the data owner 3) A list of issues (duplication, format, length, values) is raised. At that point, cleaning the Data can be a never-ending task without addressing why that incorrect data was generated in the first place. I would recommend addressing the issue with a systemic approach to block those entries from being created and then start cleaning the Data Set. Then, I would propose a script to automate those checks and push to the Data owner a periodical review of the data set.

Cleansing data means fixing or removing inaccurate, incomplete, or duplicate entries to ensure we are working with clean, reliable information. In my projects, I always make this a priority to reduce errors and improve consistency, which directly impacts the output quality used in downstream jobs. In my opinion, the best way to ensure Data Quality through Governance is to start by designating Data Owners. Before implementing a multitude of rules and constraints that can be counterproductive, I find it most efficient to rely on people knowing and ensuring the quality of a Data Set. For instance, any data changes, structural modifications, interfaces, or new usage must be discussed and validated with the Data Owner. It is upon the members of your organization to establish trust in your data. This is also the prerequisite for leveraging your Data Sets with AI. RACI, Rules, and processes will help homogenize larger organizations, but the hardest will be having someone accountable for the Data Sets.

In one project, we struggled with inconsistent data across different teams, leading to errors and delays. Instead, the focus should be on the data entry or acquisition to ensure mandatory fields, length, type, and referential integrity are checked and respected.

Regular validation is crucial to keeping data quality improvements intact. It involves checking that the data is accurate, complete, and fits its purpose. For example, you might ensure that all required fields are filled and that the data meets specific quality standards. We can talk about leveraging technology to improve data quality, but first and foremost, it is a question of corporate philosophy and maturity: 1) Does my company see the value of clean data? 2) Do they have a mentality of continuous improvement? 3) Are they willing to invest to automate such processes? There are plenty of MDM tools, Data Stewardship programs, and platforms, but I find the most successful are companies that have quality at the heart of their processes and focus on methodologies such as TQM, Kaizen, or Six Sigma.
