Los profesionales en la materia las agrupamos en un plano de caracterÃsticas que por lo general se adapta al modelo GDT (bien en la versiÃ³n de ASME, bien en la versiÃ³n de ISO). Sobre todo se deben de tener muy bien identificados los datums o puntos de referencia base tipo RPS, de forma que el chasis pueda ser considerado dentro de las coordenadas auto. En cuanto a las tolerancias, estÃ¡s pueden ser de tamaÃ±o, Ã¡ngulo, forma (tolerancias geomÃ©tricas) y de acabado. La elecciÃ³n de las mismas, dependerÃ¡ de la funciÃ³n de la caracterÃstica especÃfica, de los materiales y del proceso de fabricaciÃ³n.

La confiabilidad en el diseÃ±o del chasis, debe considerar pruebas de acumulaciÃ³n de tolerancias (stack up analysis). Esto, aunque es algo comÃºn a todos los componentes, se debe practicar muy a detalle en el chasis. La razÃ³n de esto es que esta gran pieza se vuelve el receptÃ¡culo de todos los demÃ¡s componentes y subsistemas del vehÃculo. Por lo tanto, la incorrecta colocaciÃ³n de barrenos, muescas o espacios para el montaje, pueden generar que el ensamble no sea factible, sobre todo cuando las piezas se llevan a los lÃmites de tamaÃ±o. Se podrÃ¡ argumentar que para eso se utilizan las metodologÃas de Cp y Cpk. Que ellas buscan limitar los componentes en los lÃmites. Sin embargo, la experiencia nos muestra que esta regla no siempre se cumple.

Entre las destructivas se encuentran ensayos mecÃ¡nicos de compresiÃ³n, elongaciÃ³n, torque, impacto, etc. Pero tambiÃ©n se pueden considerar otras como lo son las pruebas a soldaduras, tratamientos tÃ©rmicos y pureza de materiales. En las verificaciones dimensionales se encuentran la mediciÃ³n de tamaÃ±os (distancias, anchos, diÃ¡metros), Ã¡ngulos, tolerancias geomÃ©tricas (planicidad, circularidad, paralelismo, posiciÃ³n, perfil, runout, etc.) asÃ como el acabado o rugosidad.
