Staying motivated in pursuing your art requires consistent inspiration and discipline. Some ways to get started include setting achievable goals and creating a dedicated workspace. In my experience, joining an artist community or group can provide valuable support and feedback. One time at work, participating in a collaborative project reignited my passion and creativity. One thing I have found helpful is regularly attending art exhibitions and workshops to stay inspired. These strategies can help maintain your motivation and drive in your artistic journey.

I don’t set goals, but sometimes respond to the goals of others. I don’t do routines, I find them demotivating. I work obsessively or not at all. If art doesn’t connect, it isn’t art. Share as much as possible. Don’t embrace challenges, create them. Don’t reflect often, think and reflect all the time. If you don’t find your art motivating….. Don’t do it!

Maintaining fellowship and community with other artists is paramount to my ability to focus and produce art. Sometimes it may be as simple as contributing to the conversation through social media, or going to see exhibitions and installations. Handling materials, engaging in analytic dialogue, and sensory immersion are what moves me to that fluid state of creativity.

After you've taken the first step of creating goals, the next and likely most critical step is taking action against those goals. Establishing routine is how to drive these actions and stay consistent. Millions of books have been sold on the basis of forming good habits, The Power of Habit by @charlesduhigg being one of my favorites. You did the hard part by establishing goals...Now keep it going by making hitting the goals a habit.

Routines in education is consistent. I now teach high school students. We are set on a schedule every day, so I am always doing some type of art activity and practicing my skills. I have established a place for my own art time at home. However, I now make art out of personal necessity. It is therapeutic for me; it allows me to create new art or at times I love to doodle and color using acrylic markers. It depends on what I need at that moment. It is a challenge to be able to separate art that I need to create for work and art that I want to make for personal reasons. I don't have a specific time set aside mainly because I now create art based on how I feel. And that is not something that you can put a time too. Base it on your needs.

Procrastination is the enemy of the creative, so yes routine is essential, but a creative may not necessarily function to order between set hours. Let intuition guide but once determined, support the process with consistent engagement.

Every human being is inspired by something or the other. It’s human nature. We idolise or learn or get inspired with all our senses. Sometimes music inspires us, sometimes good food, sometimes beautiful place or sometimes human emotions. Inspiration plays vital role in shaping the artist and never shy away from accepting and sharing the inspiration and experience. It broadens the boundaries as an artist.

Where do you find inspiration for your creative practice? A primary source of inspiration for me is in fashion and textiles. I am endlessly fascinated by timeless, classic fashion and how a silhouette can be completely altered with a different fabric. When designing a new pottery collection I am more likely to turn to old movies to be inspired by the form and texture of the clothes than to turn to other ceramic artists. Seeking inspiration outside my own studio practice is essential. Finding textures, silhouettes, lines and colors in seemingly unrelated genres adds a diversity of form and finish to any body of work.

Inspiration as others have stated is individually focused. Lately, I have been exploring new mediums to inspire some of my art. I find it refreshing and exciting to see what I can create using different mediums. For example, I have been focusing on acrylic markers and what I can combine them with. Before that it was water soluble oil pastels and so on. My style of art depends on the materials I am using. Depending on how I feel depends on what medium I will use. I never know what I am going to end up with which is an exciting part for me. My main goal is to enjoy the process and see what I create.

Keep an open dialogue with your intuition, value the minutiae of life, take time to listen to the silence and inspiration will just appear. We have everything we need within us, we just need to develop the skills to access this wealth of creativity.

In the Visual Arts field, it has been extremely important to me to have a supportive mentor, who is a fellow artist, a friend, and who was also one of my major professors while I was in grad school. Mentorship goes much further than just receiving feedback and discussing ideas or providing a sense of community such as joining a local art group. It is more like having a personal coach and someone who is "in my corner," who understands what I am trying to accomplish, and who has my back.

Being an art educator can at times be somewhat lonely. There is usually one art teacher at a school so connecting with others that truly understand me is few and far between. I am fortunate to have a music teacher on my team, so we do our best to support each other. My art community is small. I do have my college friends that are in the arts as well and we have always been supportive of one another, which is amazing. I know that I should connect more with the arts community however, time is the one factor that hinders that. So, I do explore current artists online, and keep an eye on local artists when I can. This is the one area that can always use improvement. I am grateful that I am aware of it and will continue to work on it when I can.

Understand what you value and seek out like minded souls. Allow their work to resonate and at a future point there will emerge a connection. It may be as subtle as a particular mark, or a complete change of direction. Absorb and allow your intuition to process.

It’s often said for an artist to enjoy the process and journey and not just to count the results. The miles you will put on a brush will go long way so while achieving success always enjoy the journey and don’t hesitate to take the challenge as challenge will lead you to success or will give you more experience so it’s always a win win situation.

Challenges happen to you no matter what. This is an aspect of life that allows you to grow. It allows you to fail or succeed and learn as much as you can from the experience. Through my 30 years of teaching and the many challenges that I faced I now have the knowledge of what will work for me and when I need to set boundaries both personally and professionally. The most important point to remember is to learn what you have experienced. Know what will work for you and what will not. I have heard this many times before, that you are never truly given more than you can truly handle. At times a challenge may seem impossible but then you surprise yourself and can stand up taller and know where you stand. So, don't avoid it take it on full force.

Challenges can create a significant opportunity to build confidence, explore technique and learn the limitations of the medium or your skill set. It is crucial for my studio practice to spend energy failing forward. Pushing techniques or materials or my skills to and past the breaking point. Once I’ve pushed past that breaking point I know where my opportunities to improve my technique lie. Where the limits of the medium are. Where the limits of my style are. Acknowledging and exploring solutions to challenges provide a depth of opportunity that may not otherwise present itself. Not to mention the confidence boost that happens when a challenge is overcome! When you do the hard thing amazing things can happen.

Nicely said ,challenges can be embraced to help develop your skills, to me that is fun and therapeutic and a learning experience, I love it.

There is a reason that everything crosses your path, an invitation to an event, a chance encounter, a challenging undertaking. It can be scary but knowing that there is a higher purpose, be it personal development or career opportunity, embrace rather than avoid.

I love this because in recent years, thankfully, I have been able to reflect on what I originally was so deeply self critical about and even rejected, and felt anxious about within my art practice only to find it was all the very things which eventually re-inspired me without any effort! Pray that you're listening to God's direction in all that you do. Ask Him for the best path to take and what direction to move in your day. Forget your own plans and the demands of others so you can hear and listen to His will for your day. Even if it's way outside of your thinking or imagination, listen and take the challenge He gives you! You will soon see that He has the best plan for whatever you're seeking!

You only need two things to remain motivated over a long period : imagination and energy, imagination and energy, imagination and energy.

Making certain that what you are doing is your Passion. All else is Secondary to the Creative flow. Your Art needs to be Number One in your Life . We only have so many days to change the World with our Art. Each Day counts . Make Art every day and Night. Be in Love with the Creative Process.

All of the above ideas are great. However, I don't think schedules and goals are the key to staying motivated. It's essential to have fun with what you're doing. You need to have a genuine urge and desire to keep pursuing what you enjoy. Your work should be something you think about often and can't wait to get back to. That's how you stay motivated. It's simple.
