As a rail recruiter of 16 years, the railway system is a complex, multi-faceted and multi-disciplinary and (sub-disciplinary) form of engineering comprising; - Permanent Way Engineering (this is a track) - Rolling Stock (mostly a train) - Signalling (essentially traffic lights for trains) And all aspects of - Civil & Structural Engineering (think designing and building stations, tracks, car parks, foundations, drainage, etc.) - Electrical Engineering (think of the power of the rail system itself, the overhead power lines, lights, HVAC, etc. - Mechanical Engineering (think designing the actual train, its wheels and axels, and all associated plant) - Software Engineering to programme the trains and signalling systems) Plus more.

Pues estoy de acuerdo en general en todo lo que se indica en cada item. Hay que tener en cuenta que lo que hablamos de un ferrocarril no es un tren sino la integración de 4 sub-sistemas: Via, infraestructura, material rodante e instalaciones. Deben conectar perfectamente. Por otra parte, hay que enfocar los proyectos desde el punto de vista del ciclo de vida, no pensar solo en la construccion, sino en lo mas importante, en el servicio y eso requiere integrar la O&M desde el inicio.
