Their overarching goal is to safeguard digital assets and maintain the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of information.

One approach is employing a multi-layered assessment strategy with both physical and digital aspects of security including inspections, device evaluation, data analysis, and insights gathering for improved security measures. Also, use vulnerability scans, penetration tests, and crisis drills for security assessments to simulate real attacks, preventing exploitation by malicious actors. Regular (not once per year) utilization provides deeper insight into weaknesses. CISOs face a variety of cybersecurity challenges, many of which are constantly evolving due to the dynamic nature of technology and cyber threats. The most critical link in the chain is the day-to-day users, and having and implementing user training and education plans is one of the main barriers to defense. Awareness and training, reduce the risk of security incidents through User Hardening, a process that hardens the human layer of the organization and generates a cybersecure culture at all levels. Taking control with a simple and flexible solution and automating the annual awareness plan, launching simulated Phishing and Ransomware traps, and complying with regulations, strengthen this first layer of defense.

Crime Prevention Officers are a critical source of information necessary to both Problem Oriented Policing and Intelligence Led Policing strategies. One innovative example combined all three crime prevention roles: Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, community outreach, and crime analysis. A lawn at the end of two rows of single-story, multiplex apartments in a public housing community was being used as an open-air drug market. After Crime Prevention Officers met with community leaders, the housing department installed a remote control for the lawn’s irrigation system inside the home of an elderly, long-term tenant. Thus, whenever she observed drug activity, instead of calling the police, she just turned on the sprinklers.

Five skills that I believe to be important for cybercrime officers. 1. Investigative and problem-solving approach towards any issue. Diving deep into the complaints and alerts without dismissing any case quickly. 2. Understanding a wide variety of technologies, even basic understanding, will also help in these cases. 3. Knowledge of legal issues and frameworks related to cybersecurity and cybercrime. 4. Polite and helpful attitude towards the victims. Sometimes, kindness can help prevent matters from getting worse. 5. Approaching any cybercrime issue without bias. Bias can sometimes tilt us towards wrong judgement.

It is also important to keep up with the latest security and crime prevention trends / techniques through continuous education, attending conferences and keeping up to date with latest research in this area.

Another key skill set for crime prevention is to build is to evaluate situations with the mindset "what can go wrong/will go wrong". This will help in build mitigating strategies and capabilities to reduce the probability of fraud/crime. Another important skillset is to have the ability to "detect" and "recover" from the crime/fraud scene as soon as possible - because practically crime may still take place with all the precautions.

During my FBI career, I interviewed nearly 1000 cybercrime victims and discovered that most incidents could have been prevented with a few key pieces of knowledge. Often, recovering stolen funds or data was impossible, and prosecuting overseas cybercriminals proved challenging. This experience highlighted a critical need for public education in cybercrime prevention. While the FBI's main focus is investigation, I recognized the importance of proactive measures. Hence, in my post-FBI career, I am fully dedicated to educating people on avoiding cybercrime. Teaching vital prevention strategies (CyberSecire Mindset)is key to minimizing cyber victimization, I shifted my focus from investigations to also include essential education and awareness.
