Creative differences can be hard to deal with, but if handled the right way they can lead to truly original and unique art. Create a good work foundation focusing on what you have in common with your bandmate(s). And then be open minded, and expect open mindedness in return. Don't be afraid to explore, try unusual solutions, and keep egos apart. in other words embrace diversity, and use it to enhance creativity rather than limit it.

Everybody has a way to get each other. If you are expecting something special to happen, let go of what you think you're about!

I think it depends on whether you're talking about process (approach, philosophy, what's being heard) or production (playing, voicing, presenting, performing). Try to learn what the other person is hearing; get inside their head. I once wrote a very short piece for a composition class. It was great until someone else played it. I realized I hadn't captured what I was hearing in my head. In fact, I never really got there. Talk to your friend and tell him/play for him what you're hearing, and let him do the same. It's kind of like that piece you wrote where I heard "Groovin'." If you can come to an understanding of the differences in what's being heard, I suspect you can get to the place where you both hear the same thing.

Nothing else on this list can happen if “listening” isn’t primary. Listening without an agenda, not fake listening or ‘mirroring’ or mmm-hmm-ing, but engaging in total concentration. This allows space and confidence for new expressions, insights and learnings to flourish. Listening to build trust elicits the aspirations of those around you, and it may also embolden them to go to war with you! What I mean by that is, every organization goes through times that feel like a struggle for survival, whether it’s infighting, or new threats from competition or, say, a global pandemic. But when you’ve established real trust with your talent, the listening goes both ways. Directives don’t just feel like marching orders, but a shared sense of purpose.

In any project, defining the main goal upfront, especially prioritizing the song's success, is vital. When faced with complexities, ensuring that each step serves the song's (or projects) purpose is key. I've withdrawn my own contributions when they didn't align with the song's essence. It sucks, but it's crucial. Trust within the group is key —disagreement shouldn't lead to exclusion. In creative settings, everyone brings unique social and creative elements. There's a special importance in artists who, while not always offering standout ideas, inspire others profoundly. Their ability to motivate elevates the entire group, fostering an environment where creativity thrives, ultimately contributing significantly to the project's success.
