My work includes mostly hospitality training and from a strategic perspective, I use two main approaches when deciding what to do: people centric or process centric. People centric is more long term, helping people grow and contribute to the enhancement of the offering. Process centric is more to do with structure, SOPs, monitoring and control. Those two approaches can be combined to find the strategic fit for the organisation based on the priorities set by the brand.

As a Microsoft Certified Trainer, I always prefer to differentiate myself from other trainers. Usually, trainers do a normal pre assessment that has multiple choice questions or a self-assessment test. But for me, this is not enough and this is not a good indicator to the level of the attendees. For this reason, I make sure to prepare a fully practical and interactive pre assessment that supports auto correction. I send a link to the attendees in which it has a practice file that they have to download. Afterwards, they open the file and they start solving the questions on the file itself. Once they are done, they submit their answers online, and then the system automatically corrects all the answers. This method proved tremendous success.

One thing that I've found helpful is always be ready for the worse. In my case, I daily train employees from different organizations and institutions, and it happens that they send attendees from different departments, or replace attendees with other attendees on a last minute. For this reason, I always make sure that my material is general, but at the same time, I can quickly adapt it to the current attendees in my training classes. As an example, I use my Microsoft Excel Simulator to let the trainees learn the basics of data. After they are done practicing on the simulator, I ask them to apply the same concepts that they have learned, but this time, on their own files and on their own data.

Many resources now have pre-existing training portfolios. It makes your task easier. Determine what your organization needs. Then go to a site like LinkedIn Learning and see what already exists to address your need.

The most credible evidence that someone can have nowadays is a recorded video of him delivering a training course and showcasing the engagement that he is making in the training room. In addition to that, a recorded video for the feedback of the attendees would be the cherry on top. When the attendees speak and express how they felt before and after the training, this alone is a game changer in terms of evidence. I truly believe that, in a world full of training centers and trainers, one can stand out among all of them is by showing and proving that he has really made a change in their lives to the better, and what is better than an attendee's review who expresses the progress that he has made during the training course.

With the presence of Artificial Intelligence, I don't think that anyone has an excuse to have an average profile. The combination of Canva and ChatGPT are solely capable of making a game-changer trainer's portfolio. Canva is a free tool that allows you to choose a perfect template of a training profile. In addition, you can go to the free version of ChatGPT, write the best prompts to have ChatGPT write the perfect portfolio for you. Normally, a training portfolio should contain an introduction about the trainer, his in-depth experience in his field, his training methodology (with the focus on all the practical and interactive exercises), the clients that he has delivered training courses for, and lastly, the added value that he can provide.

I have several strategies that I use when it comes to sharing my portfolio. Whenever I'm delivering a training course, I make sure to display a QR code at the end of the session having a link of my LinkedIn account and not my website or contact details. After trying several strategies, I have found that this one is the most successful. The reason is that if you take your attendees to your website, they will only have a look at it and then close it. You will immediately lose contact with them. But, if you share your LinkedIn account, they will connect with you, and you will have them on your contact list, and they will have a chance to see all your posts and interact with them. Lastly, they will mention you when they post their certificates.

To create a training portfolio for any organization, follow these steps: Identify training needs. Define learning objectives. Select training methods. Develop content. Diversify training formats. Establish assessment criteria. Implement tracking and evaluation. Regularly update content. Promote accessibility. Align with organizational goals.

This is truism but I must stress, that there is no option to copy portfolios from other companies, even really similar to ours. Different places, times, personalities and phases of company growth could turn the best portfolio into the worst. You must be very carefull and focus on your environment needs and trying to propose accurate, easy to adopt solutions that allow you organisation to implement even tiny but continous improvements visible to everyone. Only in this case you can guarantee, that the crew will see changes and be engaged instead of disaffected.
