Review emails before sending. Is the email clear, concise and needed?

This is especially true with managers dealing with scarce resources and limited time. Whereas these types of approaches may be very successful for those with experience on a subject and don’t need lengthy deliberations to make a decision, I prefer to use these quicker approaches as a method to set boundaries or narrow the field if dealing with a very large number of options.

At least initially, a suggestion is to keep the SWOT analysis simple, readable, short and sharp, so it is best not to over-analyze any one element, since SWOT analysis is an iterative process conducted on a regular basis.

SWOT analysis is most associated with strategy; however, when using on a department or individual basis, consider these points: Strengths: look at your strengths in relation to your peers. If all your peers provide high performance, then high performance is not a strength, it is a necessity. Weaknesses: do other people perceive weaknesses that you are not aware of? Are your peers doing any better than you? You should be realistic and own your weaknesses as soon as possible. Opportunities: look at your strengths and ask whether these open up any opportunities or look at your weaknesses to determine if you could open up opportunities by eliminating them. Threats: put problems into perspective and identify actions to mitigate threats.
