Authenticity comes with a price and the price is vulnerability because to be authentic is to bare yourself. It is quite easy to sideline with the most popular opinion but it takes courage to stick what is the truth. This also shows the person may or may not be comfortable because to be with truth comes at a price it might be unpopular and you might be standing alone. At that moment the person is the most vulnerable but an unshakable confidence has also been earned by the person in other people’s eyes. The next time they need to know the truth they will turn back to the quality of authenticity which you showcase. They too acknowledge you are being vulnerable may be openly and may be behind closed doors . These two traits don’t go unnoticed.

This is easier said than done. As a leader, you want to be honest and authentic, to be open about your fears and anxieties but equally your team see u as their pillar of strength. So it is equally important to show the brave face even in the face of adversity. It’s a very tricky balance… if you are putting up a strong and confident face when a tough situation arises does that take away from your authenticity as a leader ? I don’t believe it does.. there is a time and place for everything. When speaking to the team about upcoming challenges and difficult situations, sharing your own vulnerabilities works well.. but when in the thick of things a leader must stand firm for the purpose / mission.. that’s what keeps everyone going.

Building trust with others can be challenging, but showing vulnerability can help to create a more profound sense of connection and understanding. It takes courage to share our personal experiences and emotions, especially when they reveal our weaknesses or struggles. But by doing so, we can demonstrate that we are human, just like everyone else. It's okay to make mistakes or feel afraid; acknowledging these feelings helps build empathy and trust between us and others. So, to create stronger relationships, consider opening up and allowing yourself to be vulnerable. It may initially feel scary, but the rewards can be significant.

Being honest and authentic when showing vulnerability is crucial in building trust because it lays the foundation for a genuine connection. When you are honest about your feelings, experiences, and challenges, it not only demonstrates courage but also conveys to others that you value sincerity in relationships. Authenticity in sharing your true self, without pretense or hidden agendas, fosters an atmosphere of openness and safety. In such an environment, others are more inclined to reciprocate with their own honesty, thereby deepening the bond of trust. Essentially, your authenticity acts as a beacon, signaling that it's safe for others to lower their guards and engage in a truly connected and trustworthy relationship.

The only way someone can be truly vulnerable is after they are ok with who they are. Even more so being ok with nothing, when you are truly ok with nothing, nothing will hurt you. You will always guard what can hurt you. When you let it all go nothing can hurt you and you have nothing to guard. Which is true vulnerability.

The traditional techniques of Mediation, such as active and reflective listening, empathy, asking open-ended questions, avoiding judgments, validating their experiences, offering support, etc.

Vulnerable person will have no hesitation to empathise with a person and listening actively comes naturally to them. As we open to listen to others and in unison empathise we are also ending the message to the other group that we too have been exposed to something like this before . There is an invisible bond that develops between the talker and the listener and that is so strong which somehow gives way to trusting each other. The battles which are being empathised are the wounds that are being exposed in open so yes there is a vulnerable person taking all the time and patience to listen and empathise with you.

listening and empathizing are crucial aspects of showing vulnerability. By attentively listening without interruptions or judgments, you convey a genuine interest in the other person's thoughts. Empathizing, or understanding their perspective and feelings, without imposing your own, demonstrates a deep level of respect and acknowledgment of their emotions. These actions contribute significantly to creating a supportive and trusting interpersonal dynamic.

Demonstrate vulnerability by actively listening to the other person's experiences, concerns, or emotions. Respond with empathy, showing understanding and acknowledging their feelings. We have so much to be grateful for - but tend to harp on what we don’t have rather than what we do. We also forget to appreciate the little things in life - which are actually the biggest building blocks of our lives. Just simple words like “thank you for doing this”, I appreciate you did that for me”, “I am so grateful for that day when you….” These are small gestures which have tremendous power to build trust and connections. Gratitude shouldn’t be just upwards, meaning to hierarchically superior people. Infact gratitude should be expressed more towards your juniors, reportees or those who are hierarchically less powerful in the pecking order. Showing your respect to those who can do nothing for you is a powerful way of building trust.

One thing that I found helpful is sharing the learning and ups and down and advising others on the same and making sure to acknowledge others positive.

In my view, as a working professional, authenticity through vulnerability requires tailoring strategies for different stakeholders In the workspace, you come across four distinct cohorts of people, 1. People who look up to you. your subordinates (direct or indirect reporting) 2. People whom you look up to. Your bosses, mentors, seniors in the organization etc. 3. People who share equal space as yours. Your peers, and colleagues. 4. People who don't necessarily don't know your power dynamics in the organization. For the third group, - Expressing appreciation and gratitude. - Share Personal Struggles ( Only if you have figured out, what to spill) - Express Insecurities proves to be effective.

Express vulnerability by openly acknowledging and appreciating the positive impact the person has had on you. Share gratitude for their support or contributions, emphasizing the value they bring to your life. This expression of vulnerability fosters a deeper connection and builds trust by showing genuine appreciation for the relationship.

In my experience, it is very important to express gratitude to everyone. By celebrating each other’s accomplishments and raising each other up is how to start building a healthy relationship/environment. It increases motivation and productivity, as well!

For example, gaining trust can be facilitated by discussing personal problems, anxiety or worries through open sharing. Through enabling people to discuss their fears it can promote unity. Admitting faults and being humble enough to own up to them might show a commitment to personal development. In a safe environment, it's critical to assess the other person's degree of trust before disclosing vulnerability.

One of the best ways I learned to build trust with employees was to admit when I had made a mistake, and take responsibility for fixing it. A common theme with managers is never apologizing in order to avoid showing weakness and losing respect. But we’re all human, we all make mistakes. When a manager makes a mistake but refuses to admit it, more often than not respect is lost rather than preserved. When I made a mistake in the schedule or missed something, I was quick to apologize and use my resources to compensate the employee for the time wasted. This built trust, and also made my employees far more likely to share with me when they had made a mistake, rather than hiding it out of fear.

The main thing that I've noticed both in private and working life is that the conversation is a necessary thing! It's important not only to listen to but also to tell something about yourself. Don't be afraid to share your challenges and goals with your colleagues. Some of them can help you to reach it or give helpful advice. Opening up encourages others to do the same, creating an environment where support and growth thrive. Remember, sharing builds bridges. Remember, you will always be supported.

Sharing goals creates a higher likelihood that you will achieve the goals. It creates pressure from not wanting to let down the other person while also making you believe more in the goal. Saying it out loud and writing it down makes you believe in yourself more to follow through with the goal.

By being a humble servant leader, you build trust In your employees. Lead your team by example treating every employee fairly. Empower your staff to achieve their goals and you will develop Loyal employees. Be reasonable and provide them the tools needed to perform their duties the most efficiently. Create a culture of hard work with a smile.

Demonstrate vulnerability by actively seeking feedback and advice from the other person. This shows that you value their insights and are open to improvement. By asking for their perspective, you not only show vulnerability but also signal trust in their judgment, strengthening the overall trust in your relationship.

I don't have all of the answers. Never have and never will. Asking for feedback and sharing of expertise provides more solid solutions. I live by the saying "People support what they help to build". Asking for advice utilizing high value questions elevates the self-confidence and personal values of others more than we understand.

As a social worker, I like to try and stay away from the word advice as sometimes this can have a negative impact on client-staff rapport. However, I believe that feedback is extremely important for an individuals growth. By asking for feedback, we can change our views and/or actions for future success. By giving feedback, we can provide an opportunity for another person to see a different perspective.

Identify the right person to ask: Choose someone who has the expertise and experience to provide relevant guidance. Be specific about your request: Don't ask for general advice, defining the problem or challenge you're facing will help the person you're asking provide helpful suggestions. Frame your request as a learning opportunity: ask for advice as an opportunity to expand your knowledge and skills. Prepare your questions! This shows that you've done your own research and are genuinely seeking their guidance. Be respectful of their time: Acknowledge that their time is valuable and be mindful of their schedule. Express gratitude! Their willingness to help demonstrates their support and belief in your abilities.

In addition to being willing to try new things, learn new skills, and explore new opportunities, vulnerability also involves being able to separate personal experiences from truly listen to others . This means being able to listen to another person's perspectives and experiences without projecting our own fears and insecurities onto them. It requires an ability to empathize with others and to see the world from their point of view. When we are able to separate our personal experiences, we can truly connect with others on a deeper level. We can build strong and meaningful relationships, and we can learn from each other's experiences.

Change is the only constant. A manger have to be flexible to make it happen. It enables to have increased trust and confidence.

Keep in mind that being flexible and receptive doesn't mean surrendering your ethical values or identity. It involves maintaining an open mind, being prepared to examine different points of view, and being adaptable in various circumstances.

The more you are with the person on their journey the more you strengthen the trust and there is an unshakeable bond that develops even without any effort. As a coach the partnership with the other person even when nothing is going on seems to be the core of trust and becoming a vulnerable partner along with them. Listening to the unsaid in those lull moments goes way deeper than whatever has been until now shared or talked about. It’s like holding the most trusted hand in your journey from darkness to truth. Your vulnerability is your glimpse of authenticity which has been perceived by the other person without even speaking .

It’s important to understand that to begin with the person you want to be vulnerable with/to should be trust worthy to you at least. Because without it the whole thing is not going to be worth it, whether we are talking personal or professional paths. The main idea is for you to get you should give and how, when or who to do it with it’s based on your judgement!

Buidling trust can be a simple process that takes only one mistake to erode the base you have built. To create trust, build the relationship, establish your credibility, look for low and high-risk opportunities to continue to build the trust with your personal and business partners.

The question itself that this article purports to answer is loaded. If you’re intentionally making an effort to ‘show’ vulnerability then you’re not being Present with authenticity. Even if you have the best intentions, true vulnerability is not planned or strategized…it’s naturally expressed as a response to being Present to whatever is unfolding without preconception or judgment of the outcome. You can’t fake or plan being real with others. It’s a misaligned conception of intention which will therefore convey the same essence of disconnect in whatever execution that manifests. If however your initial intention is to demonstrate being fully Present, your natural response will echo the same vulnerability without effort or control.
